Abstract:
A steering knuckle for a vehicle includes a metal body having a first portion defining a bore therethrough and a second portion extending longitudinally from said first portion. The steering knuckle also includes a ceramic insert disposed with the first portion and the second portion and surrounding the bore. A method of forming the steering knuckle includes disposing the ceramic insert within a cavity of a mold, sufficiently filling the cavity with a molten metal to contact and envelop the ceramic insert with the molten metal, and solidifying the molten metal so as to surround the ceramic insert with the metal body to thereby form the steering knuckle.
Abstract:
A porous structure used to form a casted component. The casted component may include a visible design feature formed in part by the casted component and in part by a body material also forming other parts of the component. The casted component may be a brake rotor having a mixed-material composite formed in part by the casted component and in part by a body material also forming other parts of the rotor. The porous structure can include a ceramic foam or a metal mesh.

Abstract:
An improvement in the production of methotrexate as set out in Ellard U.S. Pat. No. 4,080,325. It has been found that magnesium oxide facilitates the coupling reaction by acting as an acid acceptor. The dense grade of magnesium oxide is preferred in molar proportions of 2 to 4 moles of magnesium oxide per mole of 2,4-diamino-6-hydroxymethylpteridine. Further, the triphenylphosphine oxide which is generated by hydrolysis of the protecting groups is removed from the reaction stream by utilization of toluene or BTX-type solvents.
Abstract:
An automotive product having a plurality of components coated with a refractory interface coating and method for making the same are provided. The automotive product may include at least a first component and a second component configured to interconnect and engage one another. The first component may be composed of a first high-density material. The second component may be formed of a second lower-density material. A refractory interface coating may be applied at the interconnection between the first and second components to provide an enhanced surface finish to limit friction, prevent metallurgical bonding between the first material and second material, provide a barrier against galvanic corrosion, and provide a thermal barrier between the first component and second component to guard against thermal deformation or change in dimension of the second component.
Abstract:
In accordance with exemplary embodiments, a wheel assembly is provided for a vehicle. The wheel assembly includes a knuckle having a tapered inner surface to interface with an outer flange of a bearing. A threaded fastener retains the bearing within the knuckle. A wheel hub couples to an inner flange of the bearing permitting rotation of the wheel hub relative to the knuckle.
