    Abstract: Described is a polymer film with multiphase film morphology. The polymer film, within a layer, has regions of a first polymer and regions of a second polymer, and is prepared from an aqueous polymer dispersion, comprising the two polymers in dispersed form and a tackifier. The glass transition temperature of the second polymer is greater than that of the first polymer and less than 20° C. The concentration of the tackifier in the polymer film is greater in the regions of the first polymer than in the regions of the second polymer. Described also are polymer dispersions for producing polymer films with multiphase film morphology, and also applications as adhesive, coating or sealant, as for example for producing self-adhesive paper labels.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to aqueous polymer dispersions having a polymer content of at least 55% by weight that are suitable for pressure sensitive adhesives. The invention also relates to a process for preparing these aqueous polymer dispersions and also to the use of the aqueous polymer dispersions in pressure sensitive adhesives and, respectively, pressure sensitive adhesive compositions, especially in pressure sensitive adhesives for transparent substrates, e.g., plastics labels.The aqueous polymer dispersions have a polymer content of at least 55% by weight, based on the total weight of the dispersion, the polymer being composed of ethylenically unsaturated monomers M and having a glass transition temperature below −10° C., in which the dispersed polymer particles have a polymodal particle size distribution, in which at least 70% by weight, preferably at least 75% by weight, more particularly at least 80%, more preferably at least 85% or at least 90% by weight of the polymer particles have a particle diameter of below 350 nm, more particularly below 340 nm, especially below 330 nm.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of an aqueous polymer dispersion comprising dispersed particles of at least one polymer A1 having a glass transition temperature, Tg, of from −20° C. to +35° C. and obtainable through free-radical emulsion polymerization in the presence of a polymer A2 synthesized from from 50 to 99.5% by weight of at least one ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic and/or dicarboxylic acid whose carboxylic groups can form an anhydride group, or mixtures thereof, from 0.5 to 50% by weight of at least one ethylenically unsaturated compound selected from the esters of ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acids and the monoesters and diesters of ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acids with an amine containing at least one hydroxyl group, and up to 20% by weight of at least one further monomer as binder for producing abrasive material.

    Abstract: An aqueous polymer dispersion wherein the polymer particles include at least two different water-insoluble polymers P and P′, obtained by free-radical polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers, which includes the following measures: (1) polymerizing a first monomer mixture M by the method of free-radical aqueous emulsion polymerization to give a polymer P, wherein the polymerization is carried out in an aqueous reaction medium having a pH of less than 5, (2) adding a base to the dispersion of the polymer P to raise the pH of the dispersion by at least 2 pH units, and (3) polymerizing a further monomer mixture M′, which is different from the monomer mixture M, in the dispersion of the polymer P, to give a polymer P′, the monomer mixtures M and M′ independently of one another including from 0.1 to 5% by weight, based on the total amount of the monomers M and M′, respectively, of at least one monomer M1 which has at least one acid group and from 95 to 99.9 by weight of one or more monoethylenically unsaturated, essentially hydrophobic monomers M2, and wherein the polymerization of the first monomer in (1) is carried out to a conversion of at least 70% before the base is added in (2).
