Abstract:
A catheter placement unit adapted to advance a catheter in a sterile state comprising a catheter having a hub, a concentric needle and hub, a sheath, and a catheter container adapted to enclose a relatively long catheter and being adapted to advance the catheter from the container through the needle and sheath without exposing the catheter. The container in its preferred form is constructed of two halves which snap together to enclose the catheter, and snap apart to expose the catheter. The halves are relatively rotatable, and one half has two concentric walls, the outer wall providing frictional force on the catheter coiled therein, and causing the catheter to advance from the container when the said half is rotated relative to the remaining half.
Abstract:
A catheter placement unit including a catheter shield with a catheter and needle positioned therein and the catheter shield comprising a flexible tubular hollow body having its distal end closed by a frictionally engaged end plug and having a slot of varying width extending through its distal end to a point adjacent but not through its proximal end for guiding the catheter and needle preparatory to and during venipuncture.
Abstract:
A catheter assembly for peritoneal insertion, including an elongated stylet, an elongated catheter slidably disposed around the stylet and a gripping member secured to a proximal end of the stylet and having a handle grip extending transversely therefrom adjacent a shank of the stylet such that the handle grip may be grasped in the palm of one hand with the fingers grasping the catheter adjacent a distal end thereof whereby the catheter assembly may be firmly held and guided with one hand during peritoneal cavity insertion. Various embodiments of the catheter assembly include an elongated barrel surrounding the catheter having a closed end anchored to the proximal end of the stylet, a stylet which is bent upon itself to form the gripping member, and a gripping member disposed parallel to the shank of the stylet and having an upper end bent upon itself and secured to the proximal end of the stylet.
Abstract:
This invention provides an intravenous catheter, of the needleinside type, having a wing assembly serving to guide the catheter and needle during venipuncture and adapted to hold the catheter firmly in place after venipuncture.
