Abstract:
A closure system for molded plastic containers having a threaded container neck, the closure system comprising a screw cap having internal threading constructed for threaded engagement with the threaded container neck, a gasket, means for retaining the gasket on the screw cap and an abutment surface integrally formed in and extending substantially radially from the container neck for sealably contacting the gasket, wherein the screw cap and the abutment surface are constructed so that downward axial rotation of the screw cap is effective to seal the gasket against the abutment surface.
Abstract:
An irrigating solution administration system including a reservoir positioned for parallel flow of fluid from the solution container and the reservoir to the instrument being used is provided. The reservoir is placed in-line with the tubing connecting the solution container and instrument by means of a Ytype connector, for example. The reservoir assists in maintaining a constant pressure head, particularly when the reservoir comprises a flexible pouch, and increases the flow rate of fluid to the instrument.
where R1 includes halophenyl, loweralkyl, phenyl, nitrophenyl, dinitrophenyl, nitrofuryl, and nitrothienyl; R2 includes hydrogen and loweralkyl; and Nhet includes a heterocyclic moiety bonded through a nitrogen thereof which is sufficiently basic to form quaternary ammonium salts.
Abstract:
Tubular catheter adapter for use in a urinary drainage system comprising first and second tubes joined by a tubular sleeve having a filtered aperture in its sidewall at a location protected and remote from the normal flow path of urine through the adapter. The filtered aperture is covered by a bacteria filtering material through which air can pass, but body fluids cannot, thereby forming a filtered air vent in the sidewall of the adapter.
Abstract:
An improved process for synthesizing amino acid amides of dopamine comprising reacting an active ester of an appropriate Ncarbobenzyloxy amino acid directly with a dopamine salt. The amino acid amides of dopamine are useful as renal vasodilators and antihypertensive agents.
Abstract:
A number of specific anilino derivatives of chelocardin having high antibiotic activity are described. These new derivatives show unusually low toxicity and consequently a very high therapeutic index as chemotherapeutic agents against gramnegative organisms.
Abstract:
A new tableting formulation is described for erythromycin antibiotic formulations which produce, upon ingestion, surprisingly high blood levels regardless of whether the tablet is administered to fasting or nonfasting subjects. The new formulation contains magnesium hydroxide as a major tablet component together with the usual generally accepted excipients used in elegant tablet formulations.
Abstract:
A reversible, disposable thermometer having an indicia of temperature spaced apart from a viewing window. A temperatureresponsive material which is not transparent in its solid state is disposed within bores distributed within the window. When in the solid state, the temperature-responsive material acts as a shutter to obscure a legible view of the indicia through the window. When the temperature of the thermometer is raised to the temperature represented by the indicia, the temperatureresponsive material melts and becomes transparent, thus rendering visible the indicia of temperature, while remaining held by capillary attraction within the bores. When the temperature of the thermometer decreases below the solidification point of the temperature-responsive material, the material remains in the bores and again becomes opaque or translucent, thereby permitting a re-use of the thermometer.
Abstract:
An applicator for uniformly applying a sample to bacterial growth media comprising a frame having absorbent material positioned over the tip of the frame and a sleeve of permeable material covering the absorbent material. The applicator is used in test procedures for determining the presence of microorganisms in a sample, the applicator distributing a uniform film of inoculum with even distribution of any organism which may be present in the sample. The applicator thereby permits quantitation of any organisms which may be present in a suspected sample since it applies a specific amount of the sample.
