    Abstract: A valve shaft for a valve assembly of a medical device. The valve shaft is shiftable between an off position in which the valve assembly is in an off configuration and does not fluidly communicate a fluid source with a patient, and an on position in which the valve assembly is in an on configuration fluidly communicating a fluid source with a patient. The valve shaft is formed of a valve shaft proximal component formed of a first material, and a valve shaft distal component formed of a second material. The first material is more rigid than the second material so that the valve shaft proximal component may have hard stop features limiting axial and/or rotational movement of the valve shaft. The second material is capable of forming a seal between the valve shaft distal component and another component of the valve assembly.

An illustrative suction valve may comprise an elongate shaft having a longitudinal axis and extending from a first end to a second end, at least one aperture extending through a sidewall of the elongate shaft, a rigid base extending radially outward from an outer surface of the elongate shaft, and a compliant member extending between a first surface of the rigid base and the first end of the elongate shaft.     Abstract: A device for treating hemorrhoids includes a first ligating member which moves between a first position in which the first member is tightened to a degree required to maintain a desired position of the first member around the first portion without significantly cutting off blood flow and a second configuration in which the first member is cinched down around the first portion to substantially cut off blood flow to the encircled first portion. Also, the device includes a first applicator having a proximal lumen and first and second opposed distal lumens open to the proximal lumen. The first member is extending from a proximal end distally through the proximal lumen into the first lumen to exit a distal end of the first lumen, loop around and enter the distal end of the second lumen. The first member is passing through the second lumen into the proximal lumen.

    Abstract: An endoscope (e.g., a duodenoscope) includes a bifluidic valve for controlling the flow of water and air through a flexible tubular probe to respectively irrigate or insufflate an internal cavity of a patient. Some examples of the bifluidic valve include a flexible valve seal that allows air to flow in one direction but not in reverse. Different examples of the valve seal include various features, such as a set of overlapping flexible flaps arranged in a spiral, a rubber-like disc with an array of cross-slit perforations that open in response to a positive pressure differential across the disc, a resiliently expandable cone with multiple concentric ridges, a valve spool encircled by an elastic tubular piece that can expand radially to open an air passageway in the valve spool, and an elastic tube that in reaction to being compressed or otherwise shortened bulges radially outward to block an annular air passageway.

    Abstract: A valve assembly with a valve shaft shiftable within a valve well from an off position blocking fluid communication between ports in the valve well, and an on position allowing fluid communication between such ports. The on position may be proximal to the off position. The length of the valve shaft is selected simply to block access to one of the ports of the valve well when in the off position, and thus may be shorter than prior valve shafts. The valve shaft is along a distal end of an actuatable member of the valve assembly, and a user-engagement element may be provided along the proximal end of the actuatable member. The user-engagement element may be movable towards the valve shaft to move the valve shaft from the off position to the on position.
