AN ADDITIVE HAVING DETERGENCY PROPERTIES FOR INCORPORATION IN LUBRICATING OILS AND LUBRICATING OIL COMPOSITIONS CONTAINING SAD ADDITVE. THE ADDTIVE AS THE CONDENSATION PRODUCT OF AN ALIPHATIC POLYAMINE AND A MIXTURE OF A MONOCARBOXYLIC ACID AND A POLYHALO ALIPHATIC ACID HAVING A TERMINAL-CF3 GROUP IN WHICH AT LEAST 50% OF THE AMINO GROUPS OF THE POLYAMINE ARE VONVERTED TO AMIDE GROUPS BY CONDENSATION WITH THE MIXTURE OF ACIDS. THE PREFERRED LUBRICATING OIL COMPOSITION IS A 2-CYCLE ENGINE OIL COMPRISING A MAJOR PROPORTION OF A HYDROCARBON LUBRICATION OIL AND A MINOR PROPORTION OF THE ADDITIVE OF THIS INVENTION.

THE ADDITIVE IS THE CONDENSATION PRODUCT OF A POLYETHERPOLYESTER POLYOL CONTAINING FROM 2 TO ABOUT 12 HYDROXYL GROUPS AND A MONOCARBOXYLIC ACID WHEREIN ABOUT 85100% OF THE HYDROXYL GROUPS OF THE POLYOL ARE ESTERIFIED BY CONDENSATION WITH THE MONOCARBOXYLIC ACID. THE ADDITIVE IS GENERALLY INCORPORATED IN HYDROCARBON FUELS AND HYDROCARBON LUBRICATING OILS, BUT ITS GREATEST UTILITY IS IN HYDROCARBON LUBRICATING OILS. THE PREFERRED LUBRICATING OIL COMPOSITION IS A 2-CYCLE ENGINE OIL COMPROSING A MAJOR PROPORTION OF A HYDROCABON LUBRICATNG OIL AND A MINOR PROPORTION OF THE ADDITIVE OF THE INVENTION.
Abstract:
An improved lubricating oil additive having, among other desirable properties, detergency and superior rust inhibitory characteristics and lubricating oil compositions containing said additive. The additive is a two component mixture comprising a high molecular weight amido-amine and a high molecular weight hydrocarbylamine. The preferred lubricating oil composition is a two-cycle engine oil composition comprising a major proportion of a hydrocarbon lubricating oil and a minor proportion of the two component additive of the invention.

A NOVEL PROCESS FOR HALOGENATING ORGANIC COMPOUNDS UNDER MILD CONDITIONS USING A HALOGENATING SYSTEM COMPRISING HALOGEN IN A SOLUTION OF PHOSPHORUS PENTOXIDE IN TRIMETHYL PHOSPHATE. THE PROCESS IS PARTICULARLY USEFUL IN THE HALOGENATION OF DIFFICULTY HALOGENATED ACYL HALIDES AND CYCLOPARAFFINS.
