Abstract: Disclosed are a method and an apparatus for providing food information, by which the kind, the total calorie, and the suitable intake calorie of a food which the user is to take may be conveniently identified. A food information providing apparatus includes an optical spectrum obtaining unit configured to obtain an optical spectrum of a food which a user is to take, a depth image obtaining unit configured to obtain a depth image of the food, and a controller configured to identify a kind of the food based on the optical spectrum of the food, wherein the controller sets a figure with reference to a food area detected from the depth image of the food, and calculates at least one of a volume, a total calorie, and a suitable intake calorie of the identified food based on the set figure.

The food state measuring device includes an optical spectrum acquiring unit configured to image a food to acquire an optical spectrum of the food, a database configured to store natural optical spectrum information for at least one food or a component of a food, and a control unit configured to measure a state of the food by comparing the natural optical spectrum stored in the database and the optical spectrum acquired by the optical spectrum acquiring unit.
