Abstract: A geological analysis system, device, and method using x-ray fluorescence and spectroscopy are provided. The geological analysis system includes a sample tray which holds the geological sample materials, and sensors including an X-ray fluorescence (XRF) unit and spectrometer. The sample tray includes chambers formed in an upper surface, ports, and passages, each providing communication between an interior of a chamber and an interior of a port. The ports are configured to be attachable to vials. The system positions the sample tray with respect to the sensors for sensing one or more properties of geological sample materials in the sample tray.

Abstract: Improved imaging and spectrographic devices and systems, and in particular hyperspectral systems and devices suitable for use in analysis of soils and other geological substances, as well as other types of samples. The hyperspectral systems comprise diffraction gratings and a linear image sensor, and optionally one or more of light sources, lenses, slits, and digital light processors, and corresponding control processors and memory. Among other advantages, the hyperspectral systems and devices enable detailed spectrographic analysis of specific points, regions, and/or areas in analytical samples such as core samples and other types of soil blocks, using visible, infrared, and/or ultraviolet electromagnetic radiation.

Abstract: Laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) devices for analysis of geological and related samples, and related methods. In the method, a scanning table having a geological core is moved from a start position to an end position for each position in a plurality of positions of the scanning table corresponding to an e region of interest of the geological core. At each position, laser ablation is performed on the exposed surface of the geological core using an oscillating planar focus laser. Contemporaneously with performing laser ablation on the exposed surface of the geological core, spectroscopy is permitted on the emitted light received by a fiber optic receiver sharing an optical path with the oscillating planar focus laser.
