Abstract: A distal femoral joint replacement system includes a femoral component having condylar articular surfaces, a stem extending from the femoral component, and a void filler for filling a bone void within a femur. The void filler includes a body and a plurality of legs extending from the body. The body has a sidewall defining an opening for receipt of the stem which extends along a length of the body and extends through the sidewall so as to form a side-slot in the sidewall that extends along an entire length of the sidewall. The plurality of legs each have a first end connected to the body and a second end remote from the body. The legs each have an outer surface that tapers between the first and second ends and is configured to register with a corresponding inner surface of a bone void when implanted in an end of the femur.

Abstract: An orthopedic assembly includes a tibial prosthesis that includes a body that defines an anterior side and a posterior side. The body further incudes a recess in the anterior side of the joint prosthesis and a plurality of openings that extend through the body from the anterior side to the posterior side thereof. At least a first and second opening of the openings are positioned at respective lateral and medial sides of a longitudinal axis of the tibial prosthesis. A modular insert is positioned within the recess of the body such that at least a portion of the modular insert is positioned between the openings of the body. The modular insert is formed separately from the tibial prosthesis and has a porous outer surface to promote tissue ingrowth.

Abstract: A method of implanting a medical implant includes resecting a long bone along a shaft of the bone so as to form a resected surface and remove a metaphysis of the bone. A tapered bore is reamed through the resected surface of the long bone and into an intramedullary canal thereof. A tapered portion of a stem of a medical implant is fully seated within the tapered bore so as to form a press-fit between the tapered portion of the stem and the long bone and so that a collar disposed at an end of the stem is offset from the resected surface so as to form a gap between the resected surface and the collar.

Abstract: A joint prosthesis system includes a femoral component that has an articular side, a bone facing side, and medial and lateral condylar portions. The medial and lateral condylar portions at least partially define an intercondylar recess located therebetween and have a first concave surface extending in a mediolateral direction across the medial and lateral condylar portions. A first modular component has a second concave surface and is connectable to the femoral component such that, when the first modular component is connected to the femoral component, the first and second concave surfaces come together to form a transverse opening extending in the mediolateral direction. A first tibial assembly has a baseplate component and a head extending therefrom. The head defines an axle opening that extends therethrough. An axle is configured to be received within the transverse opening and axle opening so as to connect the tibial assembly to the femoral component.

Abstract: A femoral assembly includes a femoral component that includes condylar portions and an anterior flange portion. The condylar portions and anterior flange portion together define an outer side of the femoral component for articulating with a tibial prosthesis and an inner bone facing side opposite the outer side. The inner bone facing side defines five intersecting component inner surfaces that each extend from a lateral side of the femoral component to a medial side thereof. A femoral augment includes condylar portions and an anterior flange portion. The condylar portions and anterior flange portion together define an outer side of the femoral augment comprised of five intersecting augment outer surfaces and an inner side comprising no more than three intersecting augment inner surfaces. The augment outer surfaces correspond to the component inner surfaces of the femoral component. The augment inner surfaces correspond to resected surfaces of a distal femur.

Abstract: An orthopedic system includes an augment that includes a proximal surface and a distal surface, a recessed slot extending along the distal surface, and a through-bore extending between the proximal and distal surfaces and intersecting the slot. The system also includes a coupling component that includes a head and a body. The head has an aperture and is configured to be slidingly received by the recessed slot wherein, when the head is received within the recessed slot, the aperture aligns with the through-bore. The system further includes a femoral prosthesis that has an articular side that defines condylar portions and a bone facing side opposite the articular side. The bone facing side defines a coupling bore. The coupling bore is configured to receive the body of the coupling component for connection thereto.

Abstract: A method of implanting a medical implant comprises the steps of reaming a tapered bore to a first depth and a counter bore, coaxial to the tapered bore, to a second depth less than the first depth in a long bone. The counter bore has a larger diameter than the tapered bore. The method further includes inserting a medical implant into the tapered bore and counter bore. The medical implant includes a stem and a collar disposed around a portion of the stem. Inserting the medical implant include fully seating a portion of the stem into the tapered bore to form a press-fit between the stem and the long bone. The collar may be moved into the counter bore to a depth less than the second depth.
