Abstract: A flexible modular instrument includes a shaft and an extension piece. The shaft includes an interior segment having a first outer cross-sectional dimension and an end segment extending from the interior segment having a second outer cross-sectional dimension less than the first outer cross-sectional dimension. The interior segment includes a radial protrusion adjacent to the end segment such that the radial protrusion extends further from a central longitudinal axis of the shaft than an outer surface of the interior segment, wherein the first and second outer cross-sectional dimensions are measured orthogonally relative to the central longitudinal axis. The extension piece includes an attachment portion removably engageable with the end segment of the shaft. The attachment portion includes an opening to receive the end segment, the opening being defined in part by a pair of arms, each arm of the pair of arms including a projection into the opening.

Abstract: A flexible instrument includes a first end portion, a second end portion opposite the first end portion, and a shaft extending from the first end portion to the second end portion along a central longitudinal axis. The shaft includes a first helical segment extending from the first end portion to the second end portion along a first helical path about the central longitudinal axis. The second helical segment extends from the first end portion to the second end portion along a second helical path about the central longitudinal axis. The first helical segment includes a first plurality of contact surfaces and the second helical segment includes a second plurality of contact surfaces such that when a torque is applied to the shaft, the first plurality of contact surfaces or the second plurality of contact surfaces bears against the other.

Abstract: An in-process build assembly includes an in-process build structure, a support structure, and semi-sintered particles. The support structure supports the in-process build structure. The support structure surrounds a cross-section of the in-process build structure without surrounding an entirety of the in-process build structure. The semi-sintered particles are located between the in-process build structure and the support structure such that there is no direct attachment of the in-process build structure to the support structure. The in-process build assembly is fabricated by an additive manufacturing process. Either one of or both the in-process build structure and the support structure are moved after the additive manufacturing process such that the cross-section of the in-process build structure is outside the support structure.

Abstract: A fixture for masking a femoral component during a surface coating process includes a first panel and a second panel. The first panel includes a first interface surface that defines a first perimeter of the first panel and has substantially the same shape as a first perimeter of a first planar surface of the femoral component. The second panel is connected to the first panel and has a second interface surface that defines a second perimeter of the second panel and has substantially the same shape as a second perimeter of a second planar surface of the femoral component. When the fixture is mounted to a bone facing side of the femoral component, the first interface surface engages the first planar surface of the femoral component and covers an entirety thereof, and the second interface surface engages the second planar surface of the femoral component and covers an entirety thereof.
