Abstract: A wiper blade is provided that includes a blade having an outer surface and terminating in a lip tip. A permanent silicone outer coating derived from a liquid silicone rubber is bonded to at least to the lip tip. The coating can also encapsulate the blade. An improved process for operating a wiper blade is also provided in which the wiper blade has a blade with an outer surface and terminating in a lip tip. The improvement involves curing a liquid silicone rubber to adhere a permanent silicone outer coating at least to said lip tip and then movably contacting said lip tip with a windshield.

Abstract: A hydrophilic film forming composition is provided that includes a hydrophilic polymer based microemulsion. A surface tension reducing substance is also present. Water is provided as a solvent in which the microemulsion and the surface tension reducing substance are dissolved. A hydrophilic film forming composition is also provided that includes a hydrophilic polymer based microemulsion present in an amount of 5 to 45 total weight percent of the composition, and a surface tension reducing substance present in an amount of 5 to 15 total weight percent of the composition. An optional additive of at least one of a wetting agent, a dye, a bitterant, a defoamer, a light stabilizer, and a corrosion inhibitor may be present. The remainder of the composition is water. A process for applying a hydrophilic film to a substrate is also provided.

Abstract: A chemical composition for removing bug splatter from a glass substrate is provided that includes a surfactant present in an amount of 1 to 30 total weight percent of the composition. A chaotropic agent present in an amount of 5 to 20 for inorganic salts and 15 to 40 for organic chemicals total weight percent of the composition. A solvent is present in which the surfactant and chaotropic agent are dissolved. A method cleaning bug splatter debris from a transparent substrate, such as a windshield, is also provided. The composition is applied to bug splatter debris and the transparent substrate to solubilize the bug splatter debris. The composition and the bug splatter debris are then wiped from the transparent substrate.
