Abstract:
A non-linear torque produced by an offset mass rotating on a shaft is balanced over 360.degree. of revolution by a lever arm mounted to the shaft extending in a direction opposite that of the offset mass and a spring means for generating a constant force in the direction of gravity at the opposite end of the lever arm.
Abstract:
This headset includes an earphone and/or a microphone. The headset is mounted on a yoke adapted to fit over a wearer's head with pad means at each end of the yoke for engaging the sides of the wearer's head at areas spaced above the ear. One of the pad means is apertured horizontally to receive a beam which extends in either direction from the pad means, so that that pad means can be placed on the wearer's head with the beam extending forwardly, whether that one pad is on the left or right. A housing is coupled to the forward end of the beam. When the headset includes an earphone, the earphone transducer is in the housing and an ear tube is coupled to the forwardly extending end of the beam and communicates through a hole in the beam with the earphone transducer. The beam is frictionally adjustable longitudinally of an aperture in a casing on the pad means.
Abstract:
A compact conical diffraction Littrow spectrometer is disclosed. The distortion of the conically diffracted spectral component beams is compensated and as a result, the diffracted spectral beams can still be focused into a substantially straight line to shine onto a detector array. A spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) system incorporating a Littrow spectrometer or a spectrometer having one or more shared focusing element(s) and an SD-OCT system incorporating a spectrometer that is substantially polarization independent are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A lift vehicle has an elongated support structure affixed to its upper end, with the axis of elongation of the support structure parallel to or coincident with the longitudinal axis of the lift vehicle. The support structure defines a plurality of attachment planes, each of which includes the axis of elongation, which together divide the region about the axis of elongation into N angular sections or regions, each with an included angle of 360.degree./N. A plurality MN of spacecraft are organized into a plurality of M sets or layers, each containing N spacecraft. Each spacecraft defines first and second lateral support planes, skewed relative to each other, which intersect at a line of intersection, is parallel to the axis of elongation when the spacecraft are mounted to the support structure. Two or more spacecraft are mounted in end-to-end position in each angular portion. Each spacecraft stiffens the support structure, so that the stiffened support structure, can sustain the launch forces. Spacecraft of upper layers do not bear on lower layers. Controllable attachments hold the first and second lateral support planes of each spacecraft adjacent to the attachment planes defined by the support structure.
Abstract:
This transmitter is designed for installation in a telephone handset to replace a standard carbon transmitter, for the purpose of excluding the ambient noise from the telephone lines, so that only the voice of the speaker is transmitted. This transmitter is designed to be installed by a person unskilled in the telephone art. The orientation of this transmitter with respect to the handset structure is critical and is indicated to the person inserting it by markings on the face of the transmitter housing, together with appropriate instructions. This transmitter is of the carbon type, and has improved electrical connections between internal contacts which engage the carbon and external contacts which engage conductors in the handset housing.
Abstract:
This telephone apparatus includes a headset module and a station module. The headset is of a lightweight type which requires an amplifier for the electrical signal produced by the microphone, in order for the output signal to be compatible with conventional telephone switchboard apparatus. The headset module also includes electrical conductors extending from the microphone and earphone of the headset to a latchable plug forming part of a connector. The station module includes a receptacle for receiving the latchable plug, an amplifier and a connector plug engageable with a conventional receptacle. That connector plug may be part of a rigid assembly including the other parts of the station module, or it may be connected to that assembly by flexible conductors.
Abstract:
Telephone index devices including a flat base member which may be secured to a telephone and having binding loops which may be closed and opened for replacement of index sheets. The base member is secured to a telephone instrument by a plug and socket structure.
Abstract:

Abstract:
Embodiments of the present invention provide a method and apparatus for measurement of aberration of an eye. One or more embodiments provide an aberration measurement instrument that enables measurement wherein Hartmann-Shack spots have reduced speckle; one or more embodiments provide an aberration measurement instrument that enables measurement of an eye having a large diopter power variation over different zones of the eye; one or more embodiments provide an aberration measurement instrument that enables measurement with accommodation control; one or more embodiment provide an aberration measurement instrument wherein radiation reflected by a cornea and radiation scattered by intra-ocular elements are blocked; and one or more embodiment provide an aberration measurement instrument wherein a hazy background produced by radiation multiply scattered within an eye is reduced.
