Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes a TFT substrate and a counter substrate with liquid crystal sandwiched therebetween. The TFT substrate has scanning lines 10 extending in a first direction and arrayed in a second direction and video signal lines 20 extending in the second direction and arrayed in the first direction. The TFT substrate has a display area 500 in which TFT pixels are arrayed in a matrix pattern, and a frame area 600 surrounding the display area. In the frame area 600, common bus wires 521 are formed in the same layer and with the same material as the video signal lines 20 and are impressed with a common voltage. Dummy TFTs are formed in a layer under the common bus wires 521. The scanning lines 10, extending over the frame area 600, are divided outside the display area and are interconnected by bridging wires 170.

Abstract: Conductive rubbing sludge generated by rubbing attaches to side portions of chip-on-glass (COG) terminals and terminal wiring lines and possibly causes short-circuiting (leakage) between adjacent terminal wiring lines via particles included in an anisotropic conductive film (ACF) which connects bumps of a semiconductor chip such as a driver IC to COG terminals. In the liquid crystal display device, each terminal wiring line connected to a COG terminal has a projecting part designed to generate an area not subjected to rubbing.

Abstract: In the step of curing a resin for bonding a TFT substrate and a counter substrate each having an alignment film that has been optically aligned by using UV-light, damage to the alignment film due to the UV-light can be prevented without using a light shielding mask. A UV-light absorption layer is formed between each black matrix on the counter substrate. The TFT and counter substrates are sealed at their periphery by a resin that is cured by UV-light radiated from the counter substrate side. Since the absorption layer has a high absorbability to UV-light at a wavelength of 300 nm or less that degrades the alignment film, damage to the alignment film due to the UV-light for curing the resin can be prevented. Thus, provision of a light shielding mask for shielding the UV-light for the display region can be saved.
