Abstract:
A compact multi-stage switching network (100), and a router (510) incorporating such multi-stage switching network, adapted for simultaneously routing a plurality of data packets from a first plurality of input ports (110) to selected ones of a second plurality of output ports (190) comprising: a first stack (140) of IC switching layers (113) that are stacked in physical contact with one another, each IC switching layer containing at least one switching element circuit (142); a second stack (160) of IC switching layers (113) that are stacked in physical contact with one another, each IC switching layer (113) containing at least one switching element circuit (162); and interconnecting circuitry (150) that connects the first stack (140) of IC layers to the second stack (160) of IC layers to form the compact multi-stage switching network. The stacks (140, 160) are preferably mated to one another in a transverse fashion in order to achieve a natural full-mesh connection. Also contemplated are the use of superconducting IC switching circuits (142) and a suitable superconducting cooling housing (730), as permitted by the compact nature of the multi-stage switching network (100), in order to operate at high speed and low power.
Abstract:
Hydrolyzed jojoba protein is provided which can be used in a variety of cosmetic formulations to enhance the desirable properties thereof. The preferred hydrolyzed jojoba protein is in the form of an aqueous dispersion containing a mixture of amino acids, peptides and/or protein fractions derived from the hydrolysis of naturally occurring jojoba protein. Cosmetic formulations such as shampoos, shampoo conditioners, hair styling gels, hair conditioners, hair reparatives, hair tonics, hair fixatives, hair mousses, bath and shower gels, liquid soaps, moisturizing sprays, makeup, pressed powder formulations, lip products, bath additives, sanitizing wipes, hand sanitizers, premoistened towelettes, skin lotions and creams, shaving creams, and sunscreens can be improved by incorporation of hydrolyzed jojoba protein therein.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a method for forming hollow silica-based particles suitable for containing one or more active ingredients or for containing other smaller particles which may include one or more active ingredients. The method comprises preparing an emulsion including a continuous phase that is polar or non-polar and a dispersed phase comprising droplets including (i) a polar active ingredient when the continuous phase is non-polar or (ii) a non-polar active ingredient when the continuous phase is polar; and adding a silica precursor to the emulsion such that the silica precursor can be emulsion templated on the droplets to form hollow silica-based particles. The silica precursor has the general formula (I): R1x—Si—(OR2)y, wherein R1 is selected from substituted and unsubstituted alkyl, substituted and unsubstituted aryl, alcohols, amines, amides, aldehydes, acids, esters, and functional groups having an unsaturated carbon-carbon bond, R2 is an alkyl group, x+y=4, and y=1, 2 or 3. The —OR2 group is a hydrolyzable organic group that exhibits an ability to form a silicon-oxygen bond chain as a result of hydrolysis and condensation.

Abstract:
The use of novel nonionic polymeric thickeners that produce cosmetically useful emulsions of an oil phase and a water phase is described. The thickeners of choice are the urethane dimers of ethoxylated fatty alcohols. These materials were not anticipated to have emulsifying properties. Also, it has been found that the esters of ethoxylated polyols show similar emulsifying behavior, although their uses are limited by their inherent susceptibility towards hydrolysis. Further, many of the emulsions produced with these emulsifiers have a dilatant or shear thickening rheology that is unusual and has unique cosmetic applications. In addition, it is possible to produce high internal phase oil-in-water emulsions, with oil phase concentrations greater than 70%, using these emulsifiers. Finally, many of the emulsions, especially the high internal phase ones, have a characteristic “ring” or vibration that is apparent when their container is tapped. This is a characteristic of so called “microemulsions” that has not been observed in conventional appearing, white (albeit dilatant) emulsions.
Abstract:
A novel flexible infrared device is provided for heating surfaces in a uniform manner not available previously. The heater is designed in a manner so as to allow “hugging” of the surface by attaching the heater module to at least two swivel points located above the heating plane. In this manner the common problems encountered with heating dies by IR heaters is overcome.
