Abstract: A door closer, for controlling the movement of a door as the door is opened and closed, the door closer comprising: an input member movable in response to movement of the door, the input member being movable in a first direction and in a second direction; return means for moving the input member in the second direction; and damping means for controlling the movement of the input member in the second direction, the damping means comprising: a rubbing member movable in the first and second directions, and a body for engagement by said rubbing member to produce a surface effect damping force in at least one of the first or second directions.
