THERE IS DISCLOSED A PROCESS FOR COPOLYMERIZING ETHYLENE AND/OR HIGHER ALPHA-OLEFINS TO ELASTOMERIC SATURATED COPOLYMERS, OR FOR COPOLYMERIZING AT LEAST ONE OF ETHYLENE AND HIGHER ALPHA-OLEFINS WITH HYDROCARBONS CONTAINING MORE THAN ONE DOUBLE BOND TO ELASTOMERIC UNSATURATED, SULFUR-VULCANIZABLE COPOLYMERS IN VERY HIGH YIELDS. THE CATALYST USED IS OBTAINED BY MIXING (A) A HYDRICE OR ORGANOMETALLIC COMPOUND OF A METAL BELONGING TO GROUPS I TO III OF THE MENDELYEEV PERIODIC TABLE WITH (B) THE PRODUCT OBTAINED BY CONTACTING A TITANIUM COMPOUND WITH A SUPPORT CONSISTING OF AN ANHYDROUS HALIDE OF MAGNESIUM, MANGANESE OR CALCIUM IN AN ACTIVE CONDITION.
