Abstract:
The invention relates to a filtering and aerating device comprising a filter cartridge formed by a stack of grooved washers positioned in a chamber for flow of water through the stack of washers and out of the outlet of the device. The outlet has an associated port for entry of air into the filtered jet of water to aerate the latter. The chamber in which the stack is positioned is designed to contain a deodorizing and purifying substance to remove odors from the water and the inlet of the device is adapted to be removably connected to a source of water, such as to the neck of a bottle, for example, an air entry tube extending axially through the unit having one end positioned in the bottle and its other end in connection with the exterior to permit free flow of water through the unit when the bottle is inverted.
Abstract:
An elongated sleeve is insertable into a passage provided in a fractured bone, so as to bridge the fracture thereof. The front end of the sleeve carries an expansion anchor sleeve which is longitudinally slotted so that its circumferential wall is composed of strips which are connected only at the leading and trailing ends. The strips are buckled in radially outward direction by inserting a rod through the sleeve and connecting it with the leading end of the expansion anchor sleeve so as to exert a rearwardly directed tensile force upon the same, causing its buckling.
Abstract:
An elongated rod-shaped element can be inserted into the curved longitudinal cavity of a fractured tubular bone. At its front end it is provided with an expander portion by means of which it can expand an expansion element provided at the front end of a tubular sleeve which surrounds the rod, when the latter is moved axially and rearwardly with respect to the front end of the tubular sleeve. The expander portion may be releasably connected with the rod for which purpose inter-engaging coupling portions may be provided on the rod and on the expander portion.
Abstract:
The present invention is a method for more fully utilizing a mass of rubber or other elastomer to cushion and absorb the energy of impact when one rigid body strikes another. The method involves provision of at least one liquid filled leakproof interior cavity traversing substantially all of the rubber mass. The crushing effect of the impact pressurizes the liquid thereby causing the rubber to be stressed, and deformed and energy to be absorbed.
Abstract:
A water purifying apparatus comprising a body portion supporting a tank containing a plurality of hollow filter elements, the body portion having an inlet port adapted to be connected to a source of untreated water and a discharge port adapted to be connected to the system to be supplied with water, the body portion containing valves which may be manually controlled to direct the untreated water either through the filter elements into the discharge port, or directly to the discharge port.
Abstract:
Method and Apparatus for measuring human reaction wherein the test apparatus comprises a platform for supporting a person being tested, a support, a rod mounted vertically between the platform and the support, sensors for detecting deflections of the rod and a display device for recording the output of the sensors.
Abstract:
A mass of an elastic or plastic material or other deformable material is used to cushion and absorb the energy of impact when one rigid body strikes another, the mass of deformable material having at least one liquid filled leakproof interior cavity traversing substantially all of the mass. The mass is interposed between the impacting bodies and may be affixed to one or the other. The crushing effect of the impact pressurizes the liquid thereby causing the material to be stressed and deformed as energy is absorbed. A reservoir may be fixed between impacting bodies and be connected by tubing to a pressure vessel which expands to absorb energy.
Abstract:
In a shuttleless loom, a yarn is inserted into an open warp shed to form a yarn loop which is anchored by a weft thread passing therethrough upon changing of the warp shed. The yarn is laid across a warp part inserted and anchored again by a following weft thread so that a floating yarn portion, anchored at the ends, is formed on the fabric. The yarn may be a fancy yarn having an ornamental effect, or the floating yarn portion may be used for attaching objects to the fabric.
Abstract:
Two horizontal parallel heddle rails connected by heddles have center portions secured to a single vertical supporting rod whose lower end is engaged by an oscillating cam follower so that the heddle rails and heddles are reciprocated with the single supporting rod. The ends of the heddle rails are preferably guided in vertical grooves of stationary vertical guide bars.
Abstract:
An elongated supporting sleeve is to be introduced into a longitudinally extending curved interior cavity of a fractured tubular bone. It is curved in at least substantial conformance with the curvature of the bone cavity and has an internal passage extending longitudinally and through which an expander rod of similar curvature extends. At the front end of the supporting sleeve is located an expansion element which, when the expander rod is withdrawn in axially rearward direction through the passage of the supporting sleeve, is expanded into engagement with the inner walls bounding the bone cavity. An instrumentality is provided for so withdrawing the expander rod that it will perform only a rearward axial movement but will not turn.
