Abstract: Power draw stabilization is provided. A target power consumption of a source load is determined. The source load is generated by electronics supplied power by a primary power source through a power rail. The power rail is coupled to a capacitor bank by a bi-directional converter configured to smooth fluctuations in power drawn from the primary power source by performing mode switch operations. The mode switch operations include, in response to the source load exceeding a target power consumption, controllably switching to a second directional mode that directs current released from the capacitor bank to the power rail. The mode switch operations further include, in response to the source load dropping below the target power consumption, controllably switching the operational mode of the bi-directional converter to a first directional mode to direct current from the power rail into the capacitor bank.

Abstract: A system may include a first energy storage system (ESS) configured to provide electrical power to a datacenter. A system may include a second ESS configured to provide electrical power to the datacenter, wherein the second ESS is a higher-level ESS relative to the first ESS. A system may include a hierarchical ESS controller in data communication with the first ESS, the second ESS, and the datacenter and configured to: obtain grid information from a regional power grid, obtain first ESS state information, obtain second ESS state information, obtain datacenter power demands, determine a discharge schedule of the first ESS and the second ESS for the datacenter based at least partially on the grid information and the datacenter power demands, and discharge at least one of the first ESS and the second ESS based on the discharge schedule.

Abstract: Integrated energy storage system including a thermal energy storage coupled with a liquid metal battery storage and a cryogenic energy storage and related methods are described. An example integrated energy storage system includes a liquid metal battery storage, a cryogenic energy storage configured to store energy using a liquefied cryogen, a thermal energy storage, and a control system. The control system is configured to cause selective transfer of heat from the thermal energy storage to at least one battery unit associated with the liquid metal battery storage. The control system is configured to during a first mode associated with the cryogenic energy storage, cause selective transfer of heat from the cryogenic energy storage to the thermal energy storage. The control system is configured to during a second mode associated with the cryogenic energy storage, cause selective transfer of heat from the thermal energy storage to the cryogenic energy storage.

Abstract: A system for providing power to a datacenter includes an information technology (IT) load, a grid connection, a grid information source, a discretely refuellable energy source, and an energy controller. The grid connection provides electrical communication between the IT load and a power grid. The grid information source is in communication with the grid connection and configured to obtain grid information. The discretely refuellable energy source is in electrical communication with the IT load. The energy controller is in data communication with the grid information source and configured to discharge the discretely refuellable energy source to the IT load based at least partially on the grid information.

Abstract: Techniques for providing auxiliary power to a datacenter, which is normally serviced by a power utility, are disclosed. The system includes a controller, a first stamp, and a second stamp. A common DC bus couples the first stamp to the second stamp on a DC side. A common AC bus couples the first stamp to the second stamp on an AC side (e.g., the output of the stamps). An AC breaker is disposed on the AC bus between the first stamp and the second stamp. The controller controls whether the AC breaker is open or closed. A default state of the AC breaker is an open state. The control of the breakers can occur for various reasons, including whether the utility is available or whether the utility is not available. The utility might not be available due to a utility failure or due to other reasons.
