Abstract: A flywheel energy storage system that can not only be miniaturized but also can be dramatically improved in a maximum device mass energy density is provided. The flywheel energy storage system includes a flywheel unit (2) in which flywheel hubs (8A), (8B) that are provided with rotary mass circular wheels (9A), (9B) on outer peripheries thereof are supported on support shafts (5A), (5B), and an electrical motor/generator unit (3) that is provided with a stator unit (10) formed by a coreless induction coil (11i) between the flywheel hubs (8A), (8B) that hold rotor units (12A), (12B) formed by a yokeless annular permanent magnet Halbach array.

Abstract: A constant stress solid disk rotor of a flywheel has an outer shape having a plane-symmetric upper surface and lower surface, an outer circumferential radius b, and a rotation center thickness h0, and includes a thickness decreasing region which decreases monotonously in thickness from a rotation center to a connection radius a and a constant thickness region located on an outer edge of the thickness decreasing region and having a constant thickness ha from the connection radius a to the outer circumferential radius b. Shape parameters including the outer circumferential radius b, the rotation center thickness h0, the connection radius a, and the outer edge thickness ha satisfy an equation below. Here, ν is a Poisson's ratio of a rotor material.

Abstract: A DC circuit breaker 25a includes: a parallel connection part formed of a mechanical switch 40 and a semiconductor switch 44; and a switch control unit 39 which is connected in series to one side of the parallel connection part. The switch control unit 39 detects a main current value i separately from an external equipment-side breaking control device 12, and, when the main current value i is greater than or equal to a threshold α, the switch control unit 39 initiates a breaking operation without having to wait for a tripping signal from the equipment-side breaking control device 12. In this 10 breaking operation, the mechanical switch 40 is switched from on to off after the semiconductor switch 44 has been switched from off to on.
