Abstract:
A poly(ester-carbonate) copolymer comprises carbonate units of the formula (I); and ester units of the formula (II) wherein: T is a C2-20 alkylene, a C6-20 cycloalkylene, or a C6-20 arylene; and R1 and J are each independently (a) a bisphenol A divalent group and (b) a C16 or higher divalent group (b), wherein the C16 or higher divalent group is present in an amount of 40 to 50 mol %; the ester units are present in an amount of 40 to 60 mol %; the poly(ester-carbonate) copolymer has a weight average molecular weight of 18,000 to 24,000 Daltons; and a sample of the composition has a glass transition temperature of 210° C. to 235° C. as determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) as per ASTM D3418 with a 20° C./min heating rate; and a melt viscosity of less than 1050 Pa-s at 644 sec-1 and 350° C., determined according to ISO 11443.

A film including 70 to 99 weight percent of an amorphous, high heat copolycarbonate having a glass transition temperature of at least 170° C., preferably 170 to 230° C., more preferably 175 to 200° C., and 1 to 30 weight percent of a cyclic olefin copolymer each based on the total weight of polymers in the film; wherein the film has a dielectric breakdown strength of greater than 700 Volts/micrometer, preferably 700 to 1250 Volts/micrometer at 150° C., is provided. Methods for the manufacture of the film and articles including the films are provided.

A film comprising a copolycarbonate, wherein the film is a uniaxially-stretched, extruded film comprising at least one film region having: an average thickness of more than 0 and less than 14 micrometers with a standard deviation of 0.8 micrometer to 1.6 micrometers, a surface having a surface roughness average of less than 0.04 micrometer as measured by optical profilometry, a dielectric constant at 1 kHz and room temperature of at least 2.7, a dissipation factor at 1 kHz and room temperature of 1% or less, and a breakdown strength of at least 620 Volt/micrometer; and the copolycarbonate has a Tg of greater than 180° C. and comprises carbonate units derived from a bisphenol compound of the formula (3).
