Abstract: A thermoplastic pipe and a method for producing a thermoplastic pipe are provided. The thermoplastic pipe includes a liner layer, a semi-consolidated core layer comprising a prepreg polymeric fabric layer, and a shrink wrap outer layer. The semi-consolidated core layer comprises a thermoplastic polymer matrix that is randomly distributed across the fabric. The method includes producing a hollow inner liner layer, winding a prepreg comprising a polymeric powder scattered on a fabric over the hollow inner liner layer to produce a core layer, covering the core layer in a heat shrinkable wrap, and heating to produce a semi-consolidated core layer. The semi-consolidated core layer comprises a thermoplastic polymer matrix that is randomly distributed across the fabric.

Abstract: A system for coupling pipes includes a first pipe having a tapered, spigot end; a second pipe having a tapered, spigot end; and a coupler having two tapered socket ends adapted to internally receive the respective tapered, spigot ends of the first pipe and the second pipe. The first pipe and the second pipe are made from a reinforced thermosetting resin (RTR). The coupler comprising a resistive element implanted therein and connected to electrodes extending to an exterior of the coupler. A thermoplastic material is disposed between an exterior of the first pipe and an interior of the coupler. A thermoplastic material is disposed between an exterior of the second pipe and the interior of the coupler. Upon application of electricity to the electrodes, the resistive elements are heated sufficiently to melt the thermoplastic material such that, when the heat is removed, the hardened thermoplastic material seals the first pipe and the second pipe to the coupler. A method of coupling pipes includes disposing a thermoplastic material between an exterior of a first pipe and an interior of a coupler; disposing a thermoplastic material between an exterior of a second pipe and the interior of the coupler; inserting the first pipe and the second pipe into the coupler; and applying of electricity to electrodes of the coupler such that resistive elements of the coupler heat sufficiently to melt the thermoplastic material such that, when the heat is removed, the hardened thermoplastic material seals the first pipe and the second pipe to the coupler.

Abstract: A system for coupling pipes includes a first pipe having a tapered, spigot end; a second pipe having a tapered, spigot end; and a coupler having two tapered socket ends adapted to internally receive the respective tapered, spigot ends of the first pipe and the second pipe. the first pipe and the second pipe are made from a reinforced thermosetting resin (RTR). A method for coupling pipes includes disposing a thermoplastic material between an exterior of the first pipe and an interior of the coupler; disposing a thermoplastic material between an exterior of the second and an interior of the coupler; inserting the first pipe and the second pipe into the coupler; and applying a rotational force to the coupler such that friction between the first pipe, the second pipe, and the coupler generates heat sufficient to melt the thermoplastic material such that, when the heat is removed, the hardened thermoplastic material seals the first pipe and the second pipe to the coupler.

Abstract: A FRP rebar composition includes 15-45 vol % of a polymer matrix and 55-85% of a fiber mixture in which the fiber mixture includes 50-70 vol % of a first plurality of fibers which include carbon fibers and 30-50 vol % of a second plurality of fibers which are selected from the group consisting of PET fibers, glass fiber, and combinations thereof. A method of forming a FRP rebar includes feeding a first plurality of fibers and a second plurality of fibers simultaneously into a resin impregnator, pulling the fiber mixture through a liquid polymeric resin in the resin impregnator to form a resin-soaked fiber mixture, and passing the resin-soaked fiber mixture through a heated stationary die.

Abstract: A thermoplastic pipe and a method for producing it are described. The thermoplastic pipe includes a hollow inner liner layer, a semi-consolidated core comprising commingled fibers, and a shrink wrap outer layer. The commingled fibers comprise at least one thermoplastic fiber and at least one reinforcing fiber. The semi-consolidated core layer comprises a thermoplastic polymer matrix that is organized along the at least one reinforcing fiber. The method includes winding commingled fibers over the hollow inner liner layer at a designated angle to produce a core layer, covering the core layer in a heat shrinkable wrap, and heating to produce a semi-consolidated core layer. The semi-consolidated core layer comprises a thermoplastic polymer matrix that is organized along the at least one reinforcing fiber.
