    Abstract: A triorganohalosilane is reacted with ammonia or amine in a suitable solvent, to produce a reaction mixture of an organosilylamine and an ammonium halide or amine hydrohalide as the byproduct. The byproduct is removed from the reaction mixture by washing with an aqueous alkali hydroxide solution, without a loss of the organosilylamine. Distillation follows and organosilylamine is obtained in very high yields.
