An optical scanning system of a printer includes an optical scanning unit including a light source, a rotating polygonal mirror having a plurality of mirror surfaces for deflecting light emitted from the light source toward a photoreceptor web, and a driving source for driving the rotating polygonal mirror. The optical scanning system further includes a mirror, a photodetector installed to receive light scanned by the optical scanning unit to a position off the photoreceptor, and a controller for controlling a scanning start point of image data for lines by the optical scanning unit by obtaining information on addresses of mirror surfaces of the rotating polygonal mirror while counting the number of pulse signals output from the photodetector corresponding to the light received thereby, and by applying a line scanning synchronization correction time corresponding to the mirror surface address information with respect to a light receiving termination point of the pulse signal, to correct a line scanning synchronization time according to the difference in the amount of light reflected from each mirror surface of the rotating polygonal mirror.
Abstract:
A color printer capable of detecting and correcting color registration error. The printer includes a photoreceptor belt circulating along a path formed by a plurality of rollers; a plurality of optical scanning devices for scanning light toward the photoreceptor belt; a plurality of developing devices for supplying developing materials of different colors to the photoreceptor belt; a plurality of detectors for detecting part of light emitted from the optical scanning devices; an engine controller for controlling the driving of the optical scanning devices, the developing devices, and the rollers, based on received light output from the optical detectors, so that test patterns for each optical scanning device set to detect the color registration error between the optical scanning devices can be formed on the photoreceptor belt; a pattern position detector for detecting the positions of the test patterns formed from fixed positions through a developing process; and a color registration correction calculator for calculating a color registration error amount from the position information of the test patterns provided by the pattern position detector, and calculating color registration correction data from the calculated error amount and outputting the calculated correction data to the engine controller. In color registration error correction using the printer, the positions of electrostatic latent images, corresponding to test patterns formed on a photoreceptor belt by optical scanning devices, are detected by developing the electrostatic latent images with a single color. Therefore, a structure for measuring error amounts from the test patterns is simple, and the accuracy of measurement can be improved.

A device for correcting the non-linearity of a scanner comprising: a reset pulse generator for generating a reset pulse with a predetermined pulse width in synchronization with a scanning start signal generated corresponding to an input photosensitive belt sensing signal; an address generator for outputting an address by being reset by the reset pulse; a look-up table, that is initiated by the scanning start signal, for receiving an address from the address generator and for outputting information corresponding to the address in the form of digital data; and a converter for outputting a synchronizing signal with a frequency corresponding to the digital data from the LUT. Another aspect of this invention is a method for correcting the non-linearity of a scanner.
Abstract:
An optical scanning system includes a light source for emitting light beams, a beam deflection unit for deflecting the light beams to sequentially land the light beams along a predetermined scan line, and a light source driving unit. The light source driving unit drives the light source so as to land the light beams on pixel points set at equal intervals along the scan line according to image information by controlling the emission intervals between the light beams and the exposure periods of the respective light beams. The light source driving unit also adjusts the size of spots formed on the pixel points by the light beams according to gray scale values included in the image information. Therefore, in the optical scanning system, gray scale information is expressed by forming the light beam spots of an adjusted size on the pixel points set at equal intervals along the scan line.

Abstract:
An optical scanning apparatus includes an optical scanning unit, a photodetector, a belt position identifying portion for counting a pulse maintenance time corresponding to the width of the pulse signal output from the photodetector in response to the input light and outputting the counted time, a scanning delay determining portion for outputting delay time information corresponding to the result of subtracting the pulse maintenance time from a set image scanning initialization delay during the time from the beginning of the pulse until image scanning is initialized, a scanning start instructing portion for outputting an image scanning start signal after counting the delay time from the end of the input pulse, and a scanning controlling portion for controlling the driving of the optical scanning unit such that scanning corresponding to image information is initialized by the optical scanning unit in synchronization with the image scanning start signal. A color printer optical scanning system wherein each of the optical scanning controllers of the other optical scanning apparatuses include a register for storing the delay time information output from the scanning delay determining portion, a scanning start instructing portion for counting the time corresponding to the delay time information output from the register from the end of the pulse signal output from the corresponding photodetector occurs and outputting an image scanning start signal, and a scanning controlling portion for controlling the driving of the optical scanning unit such that scanning corresponding to image information is initialized by the optical scanning unit in synchronization with the image scanning start signal. With this apparatus and system, an image in which constant marginal spaces are maintained on paper can be obtained, regardless of a degree of slipping of the photoreceptor belt.
