    Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes a backlight module configured to switch between first light having a maximum luminance in a first direction and second light having a maximum luminance in a second direction different from the first direction and emit the first light and the second light from a main surface, a liquid crystal display panel, and a control device. The control device receives a first image and generates a first offset image based on the first image, the first offset image being an image obtained by reversing a color of the first image and having a luminance adjusted, controls the liquid crystal display panel such that a first display image including the first image and a second display image including the first offset image are alternately displayed, and controls the backlight module so that the first light is emitted when the first display image is displayed and the second light is emitted when the second display image is displayed. A luminance of the first offset image is substantially equal to a luminance in the second direction when the liquid crystal display panel displays the first display image.

    Abstract: A display device includes a display panel, a linearly polarizing plate, and a first polarized light-selective reflector disposed sequentially toward a viewer; a first phase difference plate and a first lens disposed closer to the viewer relative to the first polarized light-selective reflector and facing each other; a semi-transparent mirror disposed closer to the viewer relative to the first phase difference plate and the first lens; a second lens and a second phase difference plate disposed closer to the viewer relative to the semi-transparent mirror and facing each other; and a second polarized light-selective reflector disposed closer to the viewer relative to the second lens and the second phase difference plate. The first lens and the second lens have shapes asymmetric about the semi-transparent mirror as a plane of symmetry in a cross-sectional view in a direction from the display panel toward the second polarized light-selective reflector.

    Abstract: A display device includes a display panel and a control unit. The display panel includes a first substrate, a light modulation layer configured to switch between transmissive display and non-transmissive display, and a second substrate in this order, and further includes an optical sensor configured to detect a luminance of light incident from a first space located on one main surface side of the display panel and from a second space located on the other main surface side of the display panel. The control unit calculates, based on the luminance, a relationship between brightness of the first space and brightness of the second space as a numerical value and switches display of the light modulation layer based on the numerical value.
