Abstract:
A gas irradiation system has an irradiation chamber having a plurality of compartments disposed circumferentially about a central axis. One of the compartments is an inlet compartment. The inlet compartment has an aperture at the bottom through which gas flows from the compartment. The irradiation chamber comprises a plurality of UV lights which are configured to irradiate the gas and neutralize pathogens as the gas flows through the irradiation chamber. Circumferentially adjacent to one side of the inlet compartment is an outlet compartment. Circumferentially adjacent in the opposite circumferential direction on the other side of the inlet compartment is the first of a plurality of intermediate compartments. These intermediate compartments extend circumferentially about the central axis between the inlet compartment and the outlet compartment.
Abstract:
Scrap plastic is treated for incorporation into asphalt-aggregate compositions by first shredding the plastic, then heating the shredded plastic to harden any pieces of film or flexible plastic and to generally reduce the size of the shreds without decomposing the plastic, and then grinding the heat-treated pieces to a size that can be blended with an aggregate. The blend is then combined with an asphalt binder to produce an asphalt-aggregate composition. No discrimination among, or selection of, specific types or classes of plastic is required.
Abstract:
An exercise garment of elastic material is constructed with embedded rigid balls to provide a localized massage to the wearer during exercise.
Abstract:
A compound conduit containing inner and outer conduits with apertures in the former that are angled to direct jets of fluid in a rearward direction from the inner conduit into the annular space is used to draw sludge or undesirable material from a vessel without imposing a vacuum on the system. In conjunction with the compound conduit is a rotary tube seal that allows the conduit to be mounted to an orifice in a tank wall and pivoted or rotated over a range of angles. A tubing drive mechanism grasps the tubing at locations well removed from the distal end and causes the tubing to travel in the direction of the tubing axis. The gripping members in the mechanism engage the sides of the tubing and are capable of shifting position relative to each other to accommodate changes in the curvature of the tubing.
Abstract:
Recycled tire rubber, either in the presence or the absence of carbonaceous waste solids such as those from petroleum refinery operations, is first subjected to a heat treatment to release volatile materials and then combined with a liquid asphalt composition to achieve an asphalt mastic that is storage stable and of uniform consistency.

A gas irradiation system has an irradiation chamber having a plurality of irradiation compartments disposed circumferentially about a central axis. One of the compartments is an inlet compartment. The inlet compartment has an aperture at the bottom through which gas flows from the compartment. A UV LED is disposed within or adjacent to the aperture, where the UVC LED is configured to irradiate the gas and neutralize pathogens. Circumferentially adjacent to one side of the inlet irradiation compartment is an outlet irradiation compartment. Circumferentially adjacent in the opposite circumferential direction on the other side of the inlet radiation compartment is the first of a plurality of intermediate irradiation compartments. These intermediate compartments extend circumferentially about the central axis between the inlet compartment and the outlet compartment. The gas flows sequentially through each of the irradiation compartments, being irradiated in each compartment.
Abstract:
Drilling fluid used in borehole drilling is supplemented with a particulate additive obtained by shredding the packaging material in which the drilling fluid is supplied, for use as lost circulation material. This reduces the materials costs, shipping costs, and waste disposal costs associated with borehole drilling.
Abstract:
The present invention is a compact and portable personal ultraviolet air irradiation system having an ultraviolet air irradiation unit, a breathing tube, and a face mask. Unfiltered air passes through the ultraviolet air irradiation unit and is purified to ensure biological material has been neutralized by utilizing UV LEDs in the germicidal wavelengths of 100-280 nm. The ultraviolet air irradiation unit may further purify air of air particulates, gases, vapors, and biological material by utilizing a HEPA filter. The ultraviolet air irradiation unit may provide variable pressure to the mask to meet the breathing demands of the user. Flow through the ultraviolet irradiation unit may be reversible to irradiate the exhalations of a user who may be infected with a virus or other disease spread through exhalations.
Abstract:
An asphalt mastic is prepared by combining spent activated carbon, that has not been regenerated, with liquid asphalt to achieve a composition that is useful for a variety of applications for which asphalt is used, including aggregate compositions and roofing materials. The activated carbon can also serve as a foaming initiator for the production of foamed asphalt. Still further, the activated carbon can be used as coking unit feedstock and as a quencher for a delayed coking unit.
