Abstract: A method includes receiving a current picture, a first reference picture, and a second reference picture. The method includes obtaining a plurality of predefined weighting patterns, each weighting pattern being signaled as an index value and selecting a weighting pattern based on a predetermined condition. The method includes deriving a first weight to be applied to a first sub-block in the first reference picture and a second weight to be applied to a second sub-block in the second reference picture based on the index value corresponding to the selected weighting pattern. The method includes assigning the first weight to the first sub-block and the second weight to the second sub-block based on the selected weighting pattern. The method includes decoding the current block by a weighted bi-prediction based at least on the first sub-block weighted by the first weight and the second sub-block weighted by the second weight.

Abstract: The various implementations described herein include methods and systems for coding video. In one aspect, a method of video decoding includes receiving video data comprising a plurality of blocks, including a first block and a plurality of residual coefficients, from a video bitstream. The first block is encoded by applying a first intra prediction. The plurality of residual coefficients are generated by applying a second intra prediction to a residue block for the first block in a first direction. The residue block generated from applying the first intra prediction mode to the first block in a second direction. The method also includes generating, from the plurality of residual coefficients, a refined residue block for the first block, and reconstructing the first block using the refined residue block.

Abstract: The various implementations described herein include methods and systems for coding video. In one aspect, a video bitstream includes a current coding block of an image frame and signals a cross-component intra prediction mode and a hypothesis tap index. An computing system identifies a first luma sample and a first chroma sample co-located with the first luma sample in the current coding block, and selects one of a plurality of hypothesis tap combinations based on the hypothesis tap index. The computing system identifies neighboring luma samples of the first luma sample based on the selected hypothesis tap combinations, and generates hypothesis values based on the identified neighboring luma samples of the first luma sample. The computing system further generates the first chroma sample based on at least the first luma sample and the hypothesis values, and reconstructs the current coding block including the first chroma sample.

Abstract: Coded information of a current block and a plurality of reference lines of the current block is received. A first offset value is determined in a first mapping table and associated with a first reference line of the plurality of reference lines that is adjacent to the current block. A second offset value is determined in a second mapping table and associated with a second reference line of the plurality of reference lines that is adjacent to the first reference line. A first reference sample for a sample of the current block is determined from the first reference line based on the first offset value. A second reference sample for the sample of the current block is determined from the second reference line based on the second offset value. The sample of the current block is reconstructed based on one of the first reference sample and the second reference sample.

Abstract: A method of video decoding includes receiving a coded video bitstream comprising coded information of a current block in a current picture. The coded information is indicative of a bi-directional prediction with a refinement. The refinement determines an offset based on a plurality of calculations, and each calculation includes reference samples of a first reference picture and a second reference picture for the current picture. The method further includes determining that a first calculation in the plurality of calculations uses a first reference sample that is an out of boundary (OOB) prediction sample. An OOB prediction sample of a reference picture is out of a frame boundary of the reference picture. The method also includes performing the refinement that determines the offset based on the plurality of calculations with at least the first reference sample being excluded, and reconstructing the current block according to the bi-directional prediction with the offset.

Abstract: The disclosure includes methods and apparatuses that includes processing circuitry that receives, from a bitstream comprising a current block in a picture, coding information of the bitstream indicating that the current block is coded in an angular intra prediction mode with an intra interpolation filter. The processing circuitry applies each of a predefined set of intra interpolation filters to neighboring reconstructed samples within N adjacent lines from a boundary of the current block. The processing circuitry selects one intra interpolation filter from the predefined set of intra interpolation filters based a prediction error associated with the each of the predefined set of intra interpolation filters and predicts a sample in the current block using the angular intra prediction mode using the selected one intra interpolation filter. The processing circuitry reconstructs the current block based on the predicted sample.
