A reflective display including a substrate, pixel electrodes formed on the substrate, a reflective display layer formed on the pixel electrodes, an electrode formed on the reflective display layer, an ink fixing layer formed on the electrode, and a color filter layer formed on the ink fixing layer and having pixels. Each pixel includes a first subpixel, a second subpixel, and a third subpixel, the first subpixel includes a colored portion for a first color, the second subpixel includes a colored portion for a second color complementary to the first color, the third subpixel is transparent, and the color filter layer is formed such that the colored portion in the second subpixel has an area of from 0.2 to 1.0 inclusive, and the third subpixel has an area of from 0.5 to 8.0 inclusive, with respect to an area of the colored portion in the first subpixel being 1.0.

An electrophoretic reflective color display has a color filter on an electrophoretic display layer displaying black and white. A colored portion and a non-colored portion are provided in a pixel of the color filter layer, and the colored portion has a hue defined by specified values of chromaticity coordinates (a*, b*), measured with transmitted light using a D65 light source, in a chromaticity diagram of the L*a*b* color system.

A reflection-type display panel includes a substrate, a pixel electrode formed on the substrate, a reflection display layer formed on the pixel electrode, a transparent electrode formed on the reflection display layer, and a color filter formed on the transparent electrode and including an ink fixation layer. The color filter has colored portions formed on the ink fixation layer such that the colored portions correspond respectively to driving units of the pixel electrode, and the colored portions each include a coloring composition including a pigment and a binder resin such that a weight ratio of the pigment to the binder resin in each of the colored portions is in a range of from 1:9 to 5:5.
