Abstract:
A polymer composition formed from a polyarylene sulfide matrix that constitutes a majority of the polymer content of the composition is provided. Although polyarylene sulfides are not typically capable of laser activation, particularly at such a high content of the polymer composition, the present inventor has nevertheless discovered that the resulting composition can still be readily activated with one or more conductive elements using a laser direct structuring process. This is accomplished, in part, by dispersing a combination of a condensation polymer and laser activatable additive within the polyarylene sulfide matrix.
Abstract:
A polymer composition that comprises an aromatic polyester, a laser activatable additive, and a mineral filler is provided. The mineral filler has a median size of about 35 micrometers or less and the laser activatable additive has a mean size of about 1000 nanometers or less.
Abstract:
A laser activatable polymer composition is provided. The composition contains a polymer matrix that includes at least one polyarylene sulfide and at least one condensation polymer; at least one laser activatable additive; and inorganic fibers. The polymer composition exhibits a dielectric constant of about 5 or less at a frequency of 2 GHz, a flexural modulus of about 13,500 MPa or more as determined at a temperature of 23° C. in accordance with ISO 178:2019, and a deflection temperature under load of about 260° C. or more as determined in accordance with ISO 75:2013 at a load of 1.8 MPa.
