Abstract: Apparatus for supporting a rotor assembly of a gas turbine engine is disclosed. A lubricated ball type thrust bearing which supports one end of the rotor shaft is disposed within a bearing compartment formed between the rotor assembly and the engine stationary structure. One or more carbon seals, in operative relation to a seal plate on the rotor assembly, prevent the flow of excess ambient engine air into the compartment. Lubricating and cooling oil is supplied to the compartment where it is positively apportioned between the bearing and the seal plate.
