Abstract: The disclosure provides an article comprising a substrate having a surface including (i) a matrix of an optically transparent polymeric material having a first surface functionality, and (ii) at least one plasma-treated surface region comprising a portion of the surface, wherein each surface region comprises a second surface functionality, and wherein the first surface functionality and the second surface functionality are different The disclosure also provides a method for forming an article, the method comprising: (a) providing a substrate having a surface including an optically transparent polymeric material, (b) contacting the surface with a first plasma to create at least one plasma-treated surface region comprising a portion of the surface, each plasma-treated surface region having a first surface functionality, and (c) contacting each plasma-treated surface region with a second plasma to create a second surface functionality.
