Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for reforming of hydrocarbons including recovery of products. A reforming-zone effluent is separated into a net gas phase stream and a liquid phase hydrocarbon stream. The net gas phase stream may be passed separated into an H2 rich stream and a tail gas stream in a PSA. The tail gas may be passed through an absorber and then passed through a membrane to form a second H2 rich stream and a liquid stream. A second absorber is used to recover C3/C4 hydrocarbons. The two absorbers may be stacked on top of each other.

Abstract: Processes for controlling liquid organic hydrogen carrier processes are described. The processes include flow control of hydrogen as the primary variable with toluene make-up based on reactor conditions. Make-up hydrogen gas is provided via a flow controller which can be adjusted by the operator. A pressure controller on the separator is used to adjust the temperature at the reactors with a temperature controller. The inlet temperature to the reactors is maintained by heat exchangers, such as steam generators. The reaction conditions are monitored by temperature measurement and the inlet and/or the outlet of the reactor. When hydrogen feed rates are adjusted, the unit operations must increase or reduce the toluene to balance this situation. A differential temperature controller is used to reset the toluene flowrate to the reactor to achieve the desired processing objective.

Abstract: Processes for hydrogenating toluene to methylcyclohexane (MCH) and dehydrogenating MCH to toluene with minimal to no by-products, thereby ensuring minimal loss of hydrogen are described. MCH acts as a liquid organic hydrogen carrier, and it can be transferred in storage vessels and/or pipelines for several thousands of miles to the final destination with very minimal to no degradation.
