Abstract: This invention provides a method for operating an automotive lighting device comprising at least one solid-state light source. This method comprises the steps of providing a plurality of sensors, configured to provide some device data, provide a control unit configured to receive and process the device data, generate an estimated condition of the lighting device based on the device data and controlling an operation parameter of the automotive lighting device using the estimated condition. The invention also provides a data processing element and a computer program to carry out this method and an automotive lighting device comprising a control unit which carries out this method.
