Abstract:
A docking assembly serves as an interface between (1) a portable digital media storage and playback (PDMSP) device, and (2) a media reproduction system. A remote controller preferably controls the docking assembly and PDMSP device, which may receive electric charge from the assembly. Media reproduction systems may reproduce audio and video signals in user-perceptible form. Telephonic relay capability is further provided between a telephonic PDMSP playback device and a telephonic remote controller by way of a telephone rebroadcast receiver associated with the docking assembly. Methods for downloading digital media files, and for creating or modifying playlists with a remotely controllable docking assembly adapted to provide a television-compatible video output signal, are further provided.
Abstract:
Non-planar microfluidic devices and methods for transferring fluids between vessels and microfluidic devices are provided. The devices may be contoured to physically contact non-planar vessels, such as pipes, tubes, vials, or syringes to establish fluid communication between a vessel and a microfluidic device. Devices according to the invention may be constructed from flexible, rigid, or combinations of flexible and rigid materials. In certain embodiments, microfluidic devices are composed of sandwiched stencils, and self-adhesive tapes may be used for one or more layers. A microfluidic device may be removably attached to a vessel with a non-permanent adhesive or adhesive layer. Continuously wrapped microfluidic devices fashioned from a single layer, in addition to rewindable microfluidic devices constructed from multiple layers, are provided. A multi-plunger syringe permits a microfluidic device or other reservoir coupled to the vessel to be filled on the draw stroke of the syringe plunger.
Abstract:
In a concentrated solar photoelectric system, at least one controllable radiation attenuation element (e.g., an array of controllable pixels or segments) is arranged to selectively attenuate transmission of radiation to a photoelectric element (e.g., a solar panel). Liquid crystals may provide attenuation utility without necessity for mechanical actuation. Attenuation may be controlled responsive to at least one sensor to maintain each portion of the photoelectric element at or below a maximum power conversion point. Non-planar attenuators and/or lenses may be provided. One or more thermal exchange fluid channels may be in thermal communication with the thermoelectric element.

Abstract:
Skin covering elements utilize conductive regions including electrically conductive materials may be arranged to enable a user to actuate a capacitive touchscreen such as through a centrally arranged absorptive pad and/or laterally through a carrier. Embodiments directed to adhesive bandages and athletic tapes are provided. A method includes applying an adhesive bandage to a user and depressing a portion of the bandage against a surface of a capacitive touchscreen to control or operate a function of an electronic device. Conductive regions may be also arranged to communicate with an electrical interface, such as for resistive heating of skin of a user and/or providing communication with one or more sensors.
