Abstract: A materials handling vehicle comprising a hitch system, and a drive mechanism. The hitch system comprises a hitch and a hitch controller. The hitch comprises a latch, one or more sensors, an actuator, and a receiving member. The latch is positionable between open and closed positions. The actuator is positionable between retracted, intermediate, and extended positions. The receiving member is configured to lead a cart hook to engage the latch when in the closed position. The one or more sensors are configured to detect a position of the latch and a presence of the cart hook received within the receiving member. The hitch controller is configured to position the actuator in one of the retracted position, the intermediate position, and the extended position, and to position the latch in one of the open position and the closed position in response to signals received from the one or more sensors.

Abstract: A device for holding a hook to a vehicle, includes a housing that is mountable to a vehicle and a holder that is operable to releasably hold a hook. Abstract: A hitch lock for securing a trailer attachment during to a towing vehicle. The hitch lock comprises two substantially symmetrically mirrored upside-down L-shaped brackets and a rectangular plate comprising downwardly angled ends. The brackets form an enclosed U-shape, covering the hitch ball when assembled, while the plate fits into multiple slots on the brackets, forming a locked position. The adjustable slots on the brackets facilitate accommodation of diverse trailer hitch configurations, ensuring a precise fit. The angled ends of the plate enhance stability, mitigating lateral movement and prevent unauthorized individuals from sliding the brackets off of the plate.

Abstract: A self-resetting coupler is provided for capturing a hitch ball. The coupler includes a pocket to receive the hitch ball and a lever to capture the hitch ball in the pocket. When the hitch ball enters the pocket, it moves the lever from a release position to a captured position. A locking pin is biased towards a locked position. Once moved to the captured position, the locking pin moves to a locked position, locking the lever in the captured position. To release the coupler, the user pulls the locking pin clear of the lever, where it is held clear. As the hitch ball is removed, the lever moves the locking pin to be in biased contact therewith so that when the hitch ball is re-inserted, the locking pin moves to the locked position once the hitch ball is located in the pocket.

Embodiments may also include a tongue adapter adapted to couple to a tongue of the trailer. Embodiments may also include a hitch pin having a hitch pin shaft that passes through an interposer aperture and an adapter aperture, the hitch pin prevents the interposer from sliding out of the tongue adapter. In some embodiments, the interposer may be detachably coupled to the tongue adapter and may be retained by the hitch pin in preparation to adapt to hitching the trailer to a tow vehicle for towing.

Abstract: A safety device for use with a chain extending between a trailer and a tow vehicle. The device has a central sleeve that houses the chain. Two side sleeves extend parallel to the central sleeve and house an elastic cord. The elastic cord provides tension to the sleeve, allowing the chain to group or bunch up without tension. The allows a user to avoid having to manipulate the length of the chain in order to avoid chain drag from the chains being too long or chain bind from the chains being too short when the vehicle attempts to turn while towing the trailer. Typically trailers have a pair of safety chains extending from the trailer to the vehicle, thus two of the devices are preferably utilized.

Abstract: A breakaway mitigation system is provided for addressing breakaway between a tractor and a trailer unit of a truck. The breakaway mitigation system can include a spool assembly, a sensor, and a controller. The spool assembly has a spool body configured to deploy a length of a tether coupled with the spool body and configured to couple with an energy source supply conduit and to retract the length of the tether. The energy source supply conduit is configured to convey a source of energy for use by a motor or by a fuel cell. The sensor is configured to detect the length of the tether that has been deployed. The controller is configured to receive an input corresponding to the detected length and to implement a countermeasure when the detected amount exceeds a threshold value. Mitigation can be provided by a coupler that decouples under a load over a threshold.

Abstract: A drawbar assembly for coupling a drawbar to a tongue of a towed implement includes a drawbar pin and a drawbar clevis having a bore configured to receive the drawbar pin. A locking plate is coupled to the drawbar clevis and movable between a pin-lock condition in which the locking plate is configured to obstruct at least a portion of the bore, and a pin-unlock condition. An ejector mechanism is configured to dislodge the drawbar pin from the bore. The ejector mechanism includes a handle utilized to operate the ejector mechanism and an ejector arm pivotably disposed in an ejector recess in the clevis. The ejector arm is movable from a home position in which the ejector arm does not interfere with the drawbar pin to an eject position in which the ejector arm forces the drawbar pin to be at least partially dislodged out of the bore.
