Abstract: Example apparatus disclosed herein include a watermark detector to detect watermarks in a media signal. Disclosed example apparatus also include a controller to operate the watermark detector to (1) detect a first watermark in the media signal, and (2) cycle between sleep intervals and active intervals based on a repetition rate of the watermarks in the media signal to perform a detection operation for a second watermark at a second location in the media signal relative to a first location of the first watermark in the media signal. In some examples, the controller is to search a buffer of prior detected watermark symbols to detect a third watermark at a third location prior to the second location in the media signal in response to the second watermark not being detected at the second location in the media signal.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides systems and methods for improved image watermarking to improve robustness and capacity, without degrading perceptibility. Specifically, the systems and methods discussed herein allow for a higher decoding success rate, at the same distortion level and message rate; or a higher message rate, at the same distortion level and decoding success rate. Implementations of these systems utilize a side chain of additional information, available only to the decoder and not the encoder, to achieve asymptotically lossless data compression, allowing the same message to be transmitted in fewer bits.

Abstract: A method for processing a digital content includes acquiring content data using a sensor. Compressed reference data is generated from the acquired content data. A hash of the compressed reference data is generated using a hashing function. The generated hash is signed using an encryption function. The acquired content data is transmitted along with the compressed reference data and the signed hash.

Abstract: The method (100) for securing an object comprises:
a step of encoding a first message (301) in a two-dimensional barcode (303), the first message comprising at least a header identifying a certification resource and a signature produced by means of this resource;
a step of generating a fragile anti-copy mark (304) encoding a second message (302) representative of the signature produced, the second message comprising redundancies; and
a step of marking the object with the first 2D barcode and the fragile anti-copy mark.-

Abstract: The present technology relates to image signal processing. One aspect of the present technology involves analyzing reference imagery gathered by a camera system to determine which parts of an image frame offer high probabilities of—relative to other image parts—containing decodable watermark data. Another aspect of the present technology whittles-down such determined image frame parts based on detected content (e.g., a cereal box) vs expected background within such determined image frame parts.

Abstract: Techniques for automatically attaching optical character recognition data to images are provided. The techniques include receiving an image file containing an image and performing optical character recognition on the image to generate text output. The techniques then continue by identifying a particular text item from within the generated text output and determining that the particular text item is a value for particular corresponding key. Then metadata that indicates that the particular text item is a value for the particular key is stored in the image file.

Abstract: A variety of technologies having practical application in retail stores are detailed. One is an improved method of identifying items selected by customers. This method includes receiving sensor data from plural sensors, including (a) ceiling-mounted cameras that monitor tracks of customers through aisles of the store, and (b) inventory sensors that are positioned to monitor removal of stock from store shelves. This received sensor data is employed in evaluating plural alternate item identification hypotheses. These hypotheses include a first hypothesis that a customer selected an item having a first identity, and a second hypothesis that the customer selected an item having a second identity. A confidence score is associated with each of the first and second item selection hypotheses. These confidence scores are refined as sensor data is received, e.g., increasing a confidence score of one hypothesis, and reducing a confidence score of another. Such refining continues until one of the hypotheses becomes a winner, due to an associated confidence score fulfilling a predetermined criterion (e.g., reaching a threshold value), at which time the item can be added to a tally for that individual. The winning item identification hypothesis may identify a barcoded item, without that item's barcode ever having been read by a barcode reader. A great number of other features and arrangements are also detailed.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates generally to signal processing, including processing digital watermarking. One claim recites a detector apparatus comprising: memory for storing data representing color image data comprising red color data and green color data, in which the red color data comprises digital watermarking including a first polarity and the green color data comprises the digital watermarking including a second polarity that is inversely related to the first polarity; means for selectively weighting the red color data and the green color data so that the digital watermarking is emphasized while image content is de-emphasized when weighted red color data and weighted green color data are combined; means for detecting the digital watermarking from combined, weighted red color data and weighted green color data; and more or more processors configured for outputting data corresponding to detected digital watermarking. Of course, different combinations and claims are provided too.

Abstract: In an exemplary embodiment, image content is rendered to include a digital watermark pattern at an essentially fixed scale, regardless of the size of screen on which the content is displayed. In one particular embodiment, CSS and JavaScript are responsive to the rendering context (which can include screen size, and/or viewer position) to define the geometry of a watermarked texture block, which is tiled to serve as a background of an HTML-defined page. A great variety of other features and arrangements are also detailed.

Abstract: The present disclosures relates to finding or localizing machine readable indicia (e.g., a barcode or digital watermark) in imagery. One claim recites an apparatus comprising: memory for buffering blocks of image data, the image data having been captured with a camera and depicting a printed object; one or more processors programmed for: generating an edge orientation sensitive feature set from the image data; using a first trained classifier to determine whether the feature set includes data representing a barcode; and using N additional trained classifiers to determine an orientation angle associated with the barcode, wherein N comprises an integer greater than 3, and wherein the orientation angle is selected based on a probability metric. Of course, other claims and combinations are provided too.
