Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a procedure for a handdown or a handoff of a mobile station moving between adjacent cells of a wireless communication system, in particular, a procedure of a handdown and a handoff to be triggered based on a loss of a propagation path between a mobile station and a base station serving that mobile station at present. SOLUTION: The disclosed method comprises steps of: radiating a control signal at a known transmit power level from a base station over its cell; determining a receive power level threshold for the control signal to a mobile station, according to the transmit power level and a tolerable path loss for signal links between the base station and the mobile station; and triggering a handdown or a handoff after deriving the receive power level of the control signal at the mobile station, and determining that the receive power level is less than the receive power level threshold. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radio communication system (20) which includes using a plurality of antennas (30, 32) in order to perform simultaneous transmission to a plurality of mobile stations (24, 26). SOLUTION: A distributed multiple antenna scheduling (DMAS) technique includes selecting the plurality of mobile stations which receive at least simultaneous transmission on at least one selected subcarrier from the inside of a carrier bandwidth having orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). In a disclosed embodiment, the plurality of mobile stations are selected for each subcarrier in the carrier bandwidth. The embodiment includes grouping the subcarriers into a subset together in order to reduce complicatedness of calculation for determining which mobile station should be selected for the simultaneous transmission. In one embodiment, the capacitor C 2 of the T-structure is implemented using a voltage-controlled buffer 402 and a varactor diode 404. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To disclose an adaptive optics system whereby at least one mirror in the system is manipulated using electrostatic force to selectively attract or repel a portion of the mirror to or from a particular electrode, respectively. SOLUTION: This attraction or repulsion is accomplished by mechanically coupling a bound charge layer of dielectric material to at least one surface of the mirror and then placing a voltage across an electrode in an array of electrodes positioned near that mirror. The charge in the dielectric material combined with a suitable electric field makes it possible to attract portions of the mirror in one instant and then, by changing the sign on the voltage placed across the electrode, to repel those same portions in the next instant.
