    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a procedure for a handdown or a handoff of a mobile station moving between adjacent cells of a wireless communication system, in particular, a procedure of a handdown and a handoff to be triggered based on a loss of a propagation path between a mobile station and a base station serving that mobile station at present. SOLUTION: The disclosed method comprises steps of: radiating a control signal at a known transmit power level from a base station over its cell; determining a receive power level threshold for the control signal to a mobile station, according to the transmit power level and a tolerable path loss for signal links between the base station and the mobile station; and triggering a handdown or a handoff after deriving the receive power level of the control signal at the mobile station, and determining that the receive power level is less than the receive power level threshold.     Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the call loss rate under a radio frequency(RF) environment that varies dynamically by selecting the specific value of an additional parameter according to a decided quality standard, so as to use 1st and additional handoff parameters in a soft handoff process. SOLUTION: A system 10 includes a mover (MS) 12 and base stations BS1-BS4. It is decided whether the parameter selection rule of a part 1 is started with respect to at least one of members included in an active set. When this rule is started to the member, this rule is started to all members of the active set. Thus, the specific value of an additional parameter is selected according to a decided quality standard, so that the 1st and additional handoff parameters are used in a soft handoff process.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize paging channel power and initial traffic channel power in CDMA by transmitting a paging message to a mobile station by radio wave by optimum paging channel power which is decided through a paging channel. SOLUTION: The mobile station 10 generates a pilot signal measuring message(PSMM) identifying a strength, that is the power of a received pilot signal by locking in the strongest pilot signal. When the mobile station 10 is locked in the pilot signal from a base station 30, for example, PSMM is transmitted to the base station 30. The controller of the base station 30 decides optimum paging channel power and optimum initial traffic channel power, based on the reported pilot signal strength and a present forward link load in accordance with a software program which is stored in a memory. Therefore, the power budget of a system is efficiently allocated.

SOLUTION: This method triggers hand-down or hand-off of a mobile station serviced representatively by a base station in a cellular radio communication system.     Abstract: Soft handoffs in an IS-95 CDMA system or other wireless communication system are controlled using an enhanced set of soft handoff parameters which allow the system to adapt more readily to changing radio frequency (RF) conditions. In an illustrative embodiment, values for particular ones of the soft handoff parameters are selected in accordance with a set of rules, including rules such as, e.g., select the minimum value of add threshold among the members of an active set of pilots for a given mobile station; select the maximum value of drop threshold among the members of the active set; select the minimum value of drop threshold timer among the members of the active set; and select the minimum value of comparison threshold among the members of the active set. A quality measure is then determined for each of the members of the active set, based on one or more of the selected soft handoff parameter values and values of one or more additional parameters, e.g., add intercept, drop intercept and slope parameters, associated with those members. Particular values of the additional parameters are then selected based on the quality measures. The selected parameter values are then utilized in a soft handoff process, e.g., in a soft handoff process in which the given mobile station is directed to handoff from a primary base station to another base station of the system.

    Abstract: A code-division multiple access base station assisted quality soft handoff algorithm screens or filters out candidate pilot signals from a pilot strength measurement message generated by a mobile station and provides the revised pilot strength measurement message to the mobile switching center of the mobile communication system. The mobile switching center subsequently conducts handoff processing in accordance with the revised pilot strength measurement message. If the combined pilot signal strength of the existing mobile station active legs is less than a first threshold, the current pilot strength measurement message is maintained. If the combined pilot signal strength of the existing mobile station active legs is greater than or equal to the first threshold, all candidate pilot signals are deleted from the pilot strength measurement message such that only pilot signals of existing mobile station active legs remain. Also, if the pilot signal strength of a candidate pilot signal is greater than a second threshold, the candidate pilot signal is added to the pilot strength measurement message. The number of handoffs per call are reduced using the revised pilot strength measurement message such that forward link power and network processing resources are conserved.
