Abstract: PURPOSE: A spot size converter and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to improve the yield of manufactured elements, thereby improving the productivity. CONSTITUTION: A spot size converter comprises a first waveguide (31) and a second waveguide (51). The substrate contains indium phosphide (InP) or gallium arsenide (GaAs). The first waveguide comprises a core layer (30). The core layer is tapered in a first direction in one side of the substrate and extends in a predetermined width in the other side. The second waveguide comprises a waveguide layer (50). The second waveguide covers the first waveguide in one side of the substrate, extends while being tapered in a second direction opposite to the first direction, and has the waveguide layer with the same width as the core layer in the other side of the substrate.

Abstract: PURPOSE: A distributed feedback laser diode and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to obtain a single mode characteristic by equipping a diffraction grid layer having asymmetry coupling coefficient. Abstract: Provided are an apparatus and method for tracking a wavelength in a passive optical subscriber network in which a central base station and at least one subscriber terminal are connected via a remote node. The apparatus includes a first wavelength aligning unit multiplexing and aligning wavelengths of optical signals from a plurality of single-mode optical sources of the central base station; a second wavelength aligning unit multiplexing and aligning wavelengths of optical signals transmitted to the remote node from a plurality of single-mode optical sources of the subscriber terminal; and a third wavelength aligning unit demultiplexing and aligning wavelengths of optical signals from the second wavelength aligning unit, the third wavelength aligning unit being included in the central base station. Accordingly, when the wavelengths of passbands of a multiplexer/demultiplexer (MUX/DEMUX) of a remote station change due to a change in the ambient temperature, wavelength tracking is performed by making aligned the wavelengths of optical sources of a central base station, a multiplexer/demultiplexer, and subscriber terminals, thereby minimizing optical channel loss and enabling reliable management of WDM-PON.

Abstract: An apparatus and a method for tracking wavelength in a WDM(Wavelength-Division-Multiplexed) PON(Passive Optical Network) are provided to construct a reliable WDM-PON system by stably transmitting a downlink signal and an uplink signal to a subscriber terminal and a central office, respectively, even with respect to a local base station where power is not supplied. The first wavelength aligning unit multiplexes and aligns output wavelengths of plural single mode light sources at a central office. The second wavelength aligning unit multiplexes and aligns output wavelengths of plural single mode light sources received from a subscriber terminal at a local base station. The third wavelength aligning unit demultiplexes and aligns output wavelengths of the second wavelength aligning unit at the central office.
