Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To hydrogenate polyunsaturated hydrcarbon(s) in a fluid by bringing the hydrocarbon(s) into contact with a catalyst pack in the presence of free hydrogen. SOLUTION: Polyunsaturated 2-8C hydrocarbon(s), esp. 2-8C alkyne and/or 4-8C alkynene and/or 4-8C alkadiene, is brought into contact with a catalyst pack in the presence of free hydrogen. The catalyst pack is prepared by applying an active substance as a catalyst and/or promoter to a woven mesh, knitwear or foil as support material; for example, the support may be coated with the catalytically active compound and promoter by e.g. vacuum deposition. By virtue of using the catalyst, the polyunsaturated hydrocarbon(s) can be converted to the corresponding monounsaturated hydrocarbon(s) in high selectivity and yield, and hydrogenation of isobutene does not occur.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a catalyst showing marked resistance against a sulfur- containing catalytic poison, an aresenic-containing catalytic poison and/or an antimony-containing catalytic poison and to remove alkylene, diene, monounsaturated hydrocarbon and/or oxygen from a flow contaminated with a sulfur-containing catalytic poison, an aresenic-containing catalytic poison and/or an antimony-containing catalytic poison by a simple method. SOLUTION: In the case of a catalyst wherein an active compsn. contains 0.05-1.0 wt.% of at least one group X metal or a metal compd. and 0.05-1.0 wt.% of at least one group XI metal or a metal compd. and a carrier of an SiO2-containing catalyst has a BET surface area of 2-400 m2/g, at least 20% of the total void vol. of this catalyst is formed of voids having a diameter exceeding 100 nm.

Abstract: In the present invention, there is disclosed a catalyst suitable for preparing aliphatic alpha, omega-aminonitriles by partial hydrogenation of aliphatic dinitriles containing: (a) metallic cobalt, a cobalt compound or a mixture thereof wherein the proportion of metallic cobalt based on (a) being from 20 to 100 percent by weight, (b) from 10 to 70 percent by weight, based on the component (a), of metallic iron, iron oxide, a further iron compound or a mixture thereof wherein the proportion of iron oxide based on the component (b) being from 20 to 100 percent by weight, and (c) from 0 to 1 percent by weight, based on the sum of the component (a) and (b), of a compound based on an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal or zinc. Disclosed is also a process for preparing aliphatic alpha, omega-aminonitriles by partial hydrogenation of aliphatic dinitriles at elevated temperature and elevated pressure being carried out in the presence of the above-described catalyst, preferably at pressure ranging within 2 to 30 MPa and temperature in the range of 20 to 150 degC.

Abstract: Alkines, dienes, and/or singly unsaturated hydrocarbons; compounds containing sulphur, arsenic and/or antimony; oxygen, hydrogen and/or carbon monoxide are removed from material flows in a total of at most three process steps. In a first process step, after hydrogen has been added to the feed material flow at a hydrogenation catalyst which is largely resistant to compounds containing sulphur, arsenic and/or antimony, alkines, dienes and/or singly unsaturated hydrocarbons are removed by hydrogenation, oxygen which may optionally be present also being at least partially removed by hydrogenation. In a second process step, compounds containing sulphur, arsenic and/or antimony and/or residual oxygen from the first process step are removed by absorption on a contact mass, and/or residual oxygen, carbon monoxide and/or residual hydrogen are at least partially converted catalytically into water and carbon dioxide. Optionally, in a third process step, residual carbon monoxide and/or residual hydrogen from the preceding process steps is/are converted on a contact mass into carbon dioxide and/or water.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing aliphatic alpha-omega amino nitriles in the presence of a catalyst composed of (a) iron or an iron based compound or a mixture thereof (b) 0.01 to 5 wt. %, in relation to (a), a promoter based on 2, 3, 4, or 5 elements selected from the group comprising aluminum, silicon, zirconium, titanium, and vanadium, and (C) to 0.5 wt. % in relation to (a) a compound based on an alkaline metal or alkaline-earth metal. The inventive method is characterized in that the aliphatic alpha-omega dinitrile contains 1.0 ppm or more phosphorus. Catalysts are obtainable through the reductive and optional successive passivation of magnetite, whereby the catalysts have a BET surface of 3 to 10 m2/g, a total pore volume of 0.05 to 0.2 ml/g, an average pore diameter of 0.03 to 0.1 mm and a pore volume portion in the range of 0.01 to 0.1 mm of 50 to 70%.

Abstract: Shaped materials useful as catalyst for preparing cyclic lactams by reacting aminocarbonitriles with water in the liquid phase in a fixed bed reactor and which have no soluble constituents under the reaction conditions, comprising pyrogenic titanium dioxide as essential constituent, these compositions being obtainable by shaping the pyrogenic titanium dioxide into shaped articles and, before or after the shaping, treating the pyrogenic titanium dioxide with from 0.1 to 30% by weight, based on the pyrogenic titanium dioxide, of an acid in which pyrogenic titanium dioxide is sparingly soluble.
