Abstract: A tape transport apparatus comprising a central drive capstan and take-up and supply reels which are rotatably mounted on supports that ae movable relative to said capstan and can be urged by biasing means toward the capstan to maintain the surface engagement between the periphery of the capstan and the peripheries of the reels. To compensate for the mass moment of inertia of the movable supports and the tape reels mounted thereon, one or more counterweighting means are provided which are movably connected to the supports in such a way that the mass inertias cancel each other out.

Abstract: Thick liquids are blended and homogenised by continuous passage through varying shear field. Here they are subjected to a shear frequency of 5 to 1000 Hz with a shear stress of >=103 N/m2. The portion of liquid subjected to shear at any moment should not exceed a total volume of 1-40%. The high shearing follows a zone of relaxation. The ratio of through put to shearing surface is 5.103 to 25.103 kg/m2h. The viscous liquid can contain up to 80% wt. of dispersed solids, and chemical reactions or crystallisation can occur during the process.

Abstract: Thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers are produced continuously by reacting organic polyhydroxy cpds., diisocyanates and low m. wt. chain lengthening agents in a multi screw extruder, the temp. of the reaction mixt. between the time of its formation and its leaving the extruder reducing from 180-250 degrees C to 165-200 degrees C. The reaction mixt. is always in the molten state, thus obviating any deposition of solid mixt. in the extruder. The mixt. has higher viscosity, thus facilitating the prodn. of a more easily mouldable extrudate. The resulting polyurethane elastomers are completely sol. and free from specks. The process is suitable for the "One Shot" or prepolymer type procedure.

Abstract: Mfr. of hollow articles from crosslinked thermoplastics, e.g. polyethylene, where a preform is produced by injection moulding and then pressed against the wall of a blow mould by means of a gaseous medium, comprises heating the cross-linkable thermoplastics material, during and\or after shaping the preform, to crosslinking temp., crosslinking and finally cooling by the gaseous medium and contact with the mould. The process is simple and inexpensive. Prods. have uniform wall thickness since there is no tendency of the moulding cpd. to flow under its own wt. during the blow moulding step.

Abstract: Aq coating and covering media contain short fibres having a high degree of fibrillation, from water-, alkali- and acid-insoluble thermoplastics. They are useful as paints, resin-bonded plasters, adhesives, paper coating compsns., putties and cements. Thickening activity of most water-repellent polymer fibrils can reach, in aq. systems, that of many water-soluble thickners. Films obtd. are waterproof. Polymers may be esp. 2-8 C -olefin polymers, polymethyl methacrylate and polyvinyl halides.
