    Abstract: Rapid dehydration of crude oils containing salt water by addition of minor amounts of polyalkylene polyamines having at least fifty recurring ethylene imine or propylene imine units, the said polyalkylene polyamine being completely alkoxylated at the nitrogen atom with from 10 to 300 moles of ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide. Using these compounds it is possible to effect dehydration, in an economical manner, of crude oils containing up to relatively large percentages of high molecular weight hydrocarbons.

    Abstract: An agent for thawing surfaces covered with ice and/or snow consists of or contains a mixture of at least one water-soluble monohydric alcohol, at least one water-soluble polyhydric alcohol, and formamide and/or a formamide derivative in which the proportion of monohydric alcohol or alcohols is from 40 to 90% by weight and the proportion of formamide or derivative thereof is from 10 to 60% by weight, both with reference to the total amount of alcohols. From 5 to 50% of a monoether of ethylene glycol or diethylene glycol may also be included. The monohydric alcohol may be methanol, ethanol, propanol or isopropanol: the polyhydric alcohol may be glycerin or ethylene, propylene, butylene, hexylene, diethylene, triethylene, dipropylen or tripropylene glycol. A suitable formamide derivative is an alkyl formamide such as monomethyl or dimethyl formamide. As corrosion inhibitors, a fatty acid polyamide and an acetylene derivative may be included.

    Abstract: Residual mercaptans are removed from liquid hydrocarbon mixtures such as gas oil and cracked and straight-run gasolines by treatment simultaneously with (a) an N-substituted alkyl or aralkyl derivative of p-phenylene-diamine, especially N : N1-di-sec. butyl-, N : N1-dibenzyl-, and N-butyl-N1-isopropyl-p-phenylenediamine, (b) caustic soda solution, (c) air, and (d) up to 2% of compounds of heavy metals whose hydroxides are soluble in excess alkali, particularly compounds of Cu, Co, Ti, V and Cr and especially the sulphates thereof.
