Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a low-density rigid polyurethane foam excellent in compression strength and long-term dimensional stability and a method for using a low-density rigid polyurethane foam produced thereby. SOLUTION: In this process, a (modified) org. polyisocyantate (a) is reacted with a high-molecular compd. (b) having at least two reactive hydrogen atoms and if necessary a low-molecular chain extended and/or a cross-linker (c) in the presence of a blowing agent (d), a catalyst (e), and if necessary other auxiliaries and/or additives (f). Here, the blowing agent (d) comprises 0.1-10 wt.% cyclopentane, 0.1-6 wt.% compd. homogeneously miscible with cyclopentane and selected from among 3-4C alkanes and 3-4C alkenes, and carbon dioxide generated by the reaction of water with the isocyanate (a); and a polyether having arom. parts and nitrogen atoms is used in an amt. of 5-25 wt.% as the high mol.wt. compd. (b).

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an emulsion containing a halogen-free foaming agent for producing rigid foam based on isocyanate groups that brings about the properties improved by processing (in other words, improved heat stability and/or good foaming of the reaction mixture). SOLUTION: This emulsion contains (a) a compound bearing hydrogen atoms reactive to isocyanate, (b) water, (c) a halogen-free foaming agent having physical activity, and, when necessary (d) auxiliary agents and/or usually used additives. In this case, the components (a) contains 0.2-80 wt.% of polyether alcohol with the functionality of > 1.5 and the hydroxyl value of 10-100 mg KOH/g and the physically active halogen-free foaming agent (c) is hydrocarbon of 3-10 carbon atoms.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject foamed material having low thermal conductivity and improved thermal strain resistance and useful for a plastic-coated pipe, etc., without using a halogenated hydrocarbon foaming agent by reacting a polyisocyanate with a specific compound under specific condition. SOLUTION: A rigid polyurethane foam is produced by reacting (A) a polyisocyanate with (B) a compound having hydrogen atom reactive with isocyanate and composed of a mixture of (i) a polyol produced by the addition reaction of ethylene oxide, etc., to hexitol (mixture) and (ii) a polyol produced by the addition reaction of ethylene oxide, etc., to an aromatic amine wherein the hexitol content in the mixture is 15-30wt.%, the amine content is 1-10wt.% and the ratio of the polyol mixture is 60-1.00 pts.wt. based on 1.00 pts.wt. of the constituent components in the presence of (C) water and optionally further (D) a physical foaming agent and (E) a catalyst, etc.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject emulsion capable of generating a hard polyurethane foam having closed cells or open cells not containing a halogen, by making the emulsion include a reactive hydrogen atom-containing compound, a foaming agent, an auxiliary agent and an additive and using a specific emulsifying auxiliary agent. SOLUTION: This emulsion includes (A) a compound containing a hydrogen atom reactive with isocyanate, (B) a foaming agent and (C) an auxiliary agent and an additive. The emulsion includes a polyester alcohol of the formula (m) is 0-15; (n) is 0-1; (o) is 0-15; (p) is 0-1; (q) is 0-15; (r) is 0-1; (s) is 0-15; (t) is 0-1; (u) is 0-10; (v) is 0-15; (x) is 1-5; (y) is 1-4 or a mixture of 1 to 3 when (r+n)≠0; (z) is 0-3; (zi is 0.1-3; R1 is a fatty structural substance based on a multifunctional alcoholic structure not having OH group; R2 is a group of polycarboxylic acid not having COOH; R3 is an alcoholic group same as R1 } and the component B exists in an emulsified state in the component A and the component C.

SOLUTION: A polyisocyante is made to react with a compound containing a plurality of hydrogen atoms capable of reacting with an isocyante such as a hydroxyl group-containing ester represented by the formula having a functionally of 2-8 and a molecular weight of 300-8,000 in the presence of water and, if necessary, an organic compound acting as a physical foaming agent, a catalyst, an auxiliary and an additive to produce an open-cell type rigid foam represented by the formula (wherein (m) is 1-15; (n), (p), (r) and (t) are each 0-1; (o), (q), (s) and (v) are each 0-15; (u) is 0-10; X is 1-5; Y is 1-4; Z is 0-3; Zi is 0.1-3; R1 and R3 have each an aliphtic structure not containing a polyalcoholic hydroxyl group; and R2 is a group not containing COOH group of a polycarboxylic acid.

Abstract: Emulsions containing polyether alcohols are used in the production of hard foams based on isocyanates to improve the temperature stability of the foams. Storage-stable halogen-free emulsions used in the production of hard foams based on isocyanates contain: (a) compounds containing hydrogen atoms reactive towards isocyanate groups; (b) water; (c) halogen-free propellants; and optionally (d) usual auxiliary aids and/or additives. (a) is used in an amount of 0.2-80 wt.% and has a functionality of more than 1.5, and an OH number of 10-100 mg KOH/g. (c) consists of 3-10 C hydrocarbons. Independent claims are also included for: (1) the production of the hard foams described; (2) the foams, and (3) the use of the polyether alcohols described.

Abstract: The production of rigid polyurethane (PUR) foam with a low bulk density (I) comprises reacting (a) polyisocyanates and/or modified polyisocyanates with (b) high-mol. wt. compound(s) with at least two reactive hydrogens and optionally (c) low-mol. wt. chain-extenders and/or crosslinkers in presence of (d) blowing agents, (e) catalysts and optionally (f) other additives etc. Component (d) consists of a mixture of (d-1) cyclopentane, (d-2) at least one 3-4C alkane and/or alkene which forms a homogeneous mixture with cyclopentane and (d-3) the carbon dioxide from the reaction of water and isocyanate. Component (b) comprises aromatic nitrogen-containing polyethers.

Abstract: An open celled rigid polyurethane foam is prepared by reaction of di- and/or polyisocyanates with 5-30 pts.wt. castor oil glycerol ester and 1-30 pts.wt. of a polyether polyol having a hydroxyl number of 50-300 in the presence of 0.1-5 pts.wt. dimethylamino-N-methyl -ethanolamine catalyst. An open celled rigid polyurethane foam (I) is prepared by reaction of (A) di- and/or polyisocyanates with (B) compounds having isocyanate reactive hydrogen atoms in the presence of (C) propellant (D) catalysts, processing aids and additives whereby (B) comprises (wrt 100 pts. wt. (B), (C) and (D)) (B1) 5-30 pts.wt. castor oil glycerol ester (B2) 1-30 pts.wt. of a polyether polyol having a hydroxyl number of 50-300, prepared by reaction of a di to tetravalent alcohol or aromatic amine with at lest one alkylene oxide and (D) comprises 0.1-5 pts.wt. dimethylamino-N-methyl -ethanolamine.
