Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a measuring method of a spectrum response capable of shortening the period of time required for measurement. SOLUTION: A method is shown for measuring a spectrum response of a sample during test relative to a plurality of modulations including a phase modulation and a sample modulation by means of a step scanning Fourier transform spectrum meter including an interferometer 12, a detector 22, and a digital signal processor(DSP) 36. In one embodiment, this method is employed for obtaining a phase modulation angle and sample modulation angle in use of the DSP 36, obtaining interference images relative to a calibration stationary sample response by the use of the measured phase modulation rotational angle, and obtaining other images corresponding to the calibrated dynamic sample response with the use of both the rotational angles of the measured phase and sample modulation, thereby calculating one or more spectra from interference images that designate the sample calibration response relative to a plurality of modulations.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently and accurately inducing an impulse response of an interesting sample. SOLUTION: At each of a series of steps in a FT-IR spectroscope, an interesting sample is illuminated with an excitation pulse with the radiation of an excitation pulse and an acoustic signal having dependence O2 (t) on time generated from the excitation pulse is captured to calculate a Fourier transform Os of Os (t). At each of the series of steps in the FT-IR spectroscope, a reference sample is illuminated by an excitation pulse of an analysis radiation and an acoustic signal having dependence OR(t) on time generated from the excitation pulse is captured to calculate the Fourier transform OR of OR(t). At each step, an inverse Fourier transform of a ratio of Os /OR is calculated to determine a series of values s(ti ) which are applied for a series of times i. The values s(ti ) thus obtained represent impulse responses s(t) of the interesting sample for a mixture with a light frequency corresponding to given delay values. An interference chart is processed for providing a photoacoustic spectrum.

Abstract: By considering a transient signal as merely another signal in a linear, shift-invariant system representing a step-scanning Fourier transform spectrometer, the present invention characterizes the transient signal and then compensates for its effect on the measurement by employing various signal processing techniques. Thus, according to one aspect of the present invention, it provides a method for obtaining the spectrum of the desired signal by subtracting the Fourier transform of the transient signal from the Fourier transform of the composite signal output from the detector (i.e., the signal containing both the desired signal and the transient signal). According to another aspect of the present invention, it provides a method for deriving an estimate of the Fourier transform of the transient signal from the Fourier transform of the composite signal.

Abstract: The spectrometer includes a radiation source (22), a focal plane field detector (32), an internal reflection element (10) with a contact area (20) which engages with a sample (18) to be examined, and a wavelength-selective element, such as an interferometer, which absorbs radiation proceeding between the radiation source and the focal plane field detector, to cause a selective modulation of the absorbed radiation. A device (26) is provided for controlling and concentrating radiation from the source through the rear surface area of the internal reflection element in the direction of the contact area, so that an angle of incidence of an input beam at the front surface area is equal or larger than a critical angle for the internal reflection element. A device (28) is provided for collecting reflected radiation from the contact area and for imaging the reflected radiation on the focal plane field detector.

Abstract: A technique for extracting the impulse response of a sample of interest includes corresponding measurements made with the sample of interest and a reference sample. At each of a series of steps in an FT-IR spectrometer, the sample of interest is illuminated with an excitation pulse of infrared radiation, acoustic signals having a time dependence os(t) arising from the excitation pulse are captured, and a Fourier transform Os of os(t) is computed. At each of a series of steps in the FT-IR spectrometer, the reference sample is illuminated with an excitation pulse of analytic radiation, acoustic signals having a time dependence OR(t) arising from the excitation pulse are captured, and a Fourier transform OR of OR(t) is computed. For each step, an inverse Fourier transform of the ratio OS/OR is computed to provide a series of values s(ti) for a series of times ti. These values s(ti) represent the impulse response s(t) of the sample of interest for the mix of optical frequencies for that retardation value. Interferograms are processed to provide photoacoustic spectra.
