    Abstract: METHOD OF DIRECTLY DETERMINING THE MAGNETOSTRICTION CONSTANT AND DEVICE FOR CARRYING OUT SAID METHOD The invention provides method and apparatus for determining and measuring the magnetostriction constant of magnetic thin film materials in which said material is applied on a substrate and the thus formed sample clamped at one end being deflected under the influence of a magnetic field through utilizing the respective magnetostriction effect, and the magnetostriction constant being measured via the deflection representing a measure for the magnetostriction constant characterized in that the sample is subjected to a magnetic AC field, wherein the magnetic AC field is frequency adjustable, and the magnetic AC field is adjusted with respect to frequency in such a manner that the sample can be set to vibrate in resonance, and whereupon the vibration amplitude (a, ares) of the sample which is a measure for the magnetostriction constant is determined opto-electrically. .

    Abstract: METHODS AND ARRANGEMENTS FOR CHARACTERIZING MAGNETIC COATING COMPOSITIONS AS WELL AS IMPROVING MAGNETIC PARTICLE DISPERSIONS A method and an arrangement is provided for characterizing magnetic coating compositions that contain magnetic particles dispersed in a solvent resin matrix. The probe material is subjected to an alternating magnetic field and vertically thereto to a constant magnetic field of appropriate field strength and duration. Via a measuring coil the induced signal in the probe material is monitored and different characteristics, preferably the degree of dispersion, are measured by measuring the magnetic susceptibility of the coating material. By applying a constant magnetic field the degree of dispersion can be changed at least for a certain time. The method and arrangement of the present invention can be incorporated in an in-line system into a coating apparatus to monitor the magnetic characteristica of the coating material as well as to improve and maintain such improved characteristics.

    Abstract: ARRANGEMENT FOR DETERMINING CHARACTERISTICS OF MAGNETIC PARTICLE DISPERSIONS For determining characteristics of coating compositions including magnetic particles, the coating composition is subjected to an alternating magnetic field of selectively variable frequency. The field induced by the coating composition after energization is recorded, and thus the susceptibility of the coating composition is measured. Depending on the selected frequencies, conclusions can be made regarding the degree of dispersion, particle density, and viscosity of the coating composition. The frequency is varied between 1 and 100 cups, and the field intensity of the energizing field should be lower than about 10 Oersted. The coating composition may be static or flowing in a container pipe or conduit which is surrounded by field coils and a measuring coil.
