    Abstract: A liquid crystal display device requiring no flicker adjustment after manufactured. The liquid crystal display device is of IPS drive type. Just after the liquid crystal display device is turned on, there is an intial voltage component between a pixel electrode and a common electrode. The initial DC voltage component is considered to cause flicker. When the DC voltage component is automatically lowered to an allowable value in a predetermined time after the power is turned on, flicker adjustment is not required by changing the potential applied to the electrodes in the pixels. For this, it is necessary to lower the initial DC compositions sufficiently and to make a construction in which charge can migrate at a high speed in the liquid crystal panel. A punching-through compensation drive method is adopted as one technique of lowering the initial DC components. The construction of opposed substrates are made preferrable to facilitate the migration of charge therein.

    Abstract: To prevent the display image from becoming unclear due to an overlap of the afterimage of the display image of the preceding frame period with the display image of the current frame period so that the image quality of the motion picture may be improved, a display apparatus includes a display surface having a plurality of pixel lines and a write circuit adapted to sequentially write an image into each of said plurality of pixel lines. The write circuit writes, during a time period for writing said image into at least one pixel line, a black color into another pixel line. The another pixel line is separated from the at least one pixel line by a predetermined distance. The write circuit writes the black color into a plurality of pixel lines separated from the at least one gate line by the predetermined distance.

    Abstract: A display apparatus that combines a black signal portion and an image signal portion to make a data signal. The data signal being used in conjunction with different width gate pulses so that the image signal and the black signal can be applied to different data lines at the same time and at a predetermined distance apart. This provides a means for preventing the display image from becoming unclear due to an overlap of the after image from the image displayed in the previous frame period with the image displayed in the current frame period thereby improving the image quality of the moving picture.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of an unclear display image and to improve the quality of an animation by allowing a writing means to write in black color for other pixel line during an interval in which an image is at least written in one pixel line. SOLUTION: An image, which is displayed to a user, is written into all pixels of one pixel line during one interval of one frame interval by gating both a black color signal portion 16 and an image signal portion 17 of a data signal. Then, during a next frame interval, only the portion 16 is gated prior to writing an image in one pixel line and black color for eliminating the persistence of vision is written into all pixels of the line. Thus, two kind gate/pulse DI has a wide width to gate both portions 16 and 17.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oriented membrane forming material whose pretilt angle is sufficiently changed but the electric characteristic is hardly changed by the emission of ultraviolet ray, its manufacture, an oriented membrane formed by use of this material, its manufacture, and a liquid crystal display device using this oriented membrane which never causes deterioration of liquid crystal, seize of picture element, or flicker. SOLUTION: Two kinds of polymers separated in the membrane thickness directions in the formation of an oriented membrane 42, or a first polymer 34 forming the main layer of a lower layer in the formation of the oriented membrane 42 and a second polymer 36 for forming a surface layer thicker than the main layer on the upper layer of the main layer are mixed. The first polymer 34 has a small change in electric characteristic by ultraviolet ray emission, and the second polymer 36 has a large change in pretilt angle by ultraviolet ray emission.
