    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for performing a voice dispatch call in a digital communication system such as spread spectrum communication system. SOLUTION: When a call originating mobile unit sends a dispatch request and the request is received in a dispatch server (305), the dispatch call is started. A radio channel is established with each of active mobile units in a dispatch group (307). Next, the call originating mobile unit sends audio data and these data are received by the dispatch server (309). The audio data can be held in a buffer in the call originating mobile unit or dispatch server. Next, the dispatch server distributes one part of audio data to the active mobile unit in the dispatch group while utilizing the radio channel (311).

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide such a charging system that its charge is increased in the peak time of the number of calls and is reduced in the off-peak time of the number of calls. SOLUTION: A method for charging a call in a cellular mobile communication system includes a step for holding the records of the utilizing states of a channel in the region including one or more cells or sectors; a step for reporting to the mobile stations present in a region that a call is made possible at a lower charge than usual ones, when the low occupation factor of a radio channel is sensed in the region; and a step for recording the fact that the charge of the call is made low, in the charge record relative to the call. In this case, the charge record includes the information whereby a charge processor can make its charge low to the call. The method can be used in a reverse mode. That is, the subscriber to the call plan of a low cost is informed of the time when the charge rate of a call is increased, by the reason that the capacity of a usable radio channel has been decreased.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a mobile unit user to surely eliminate the noises which are caused by the mobile unit and a transmitting environment of wireless communication by mounting a network muting function. SOLUTION: In this system, a network muting function is added to a mobile unit 110. When the network muting function is started, the unit 110 sends a message to a mobile switching center 140 to cut a voice path that secures the mutual connection between a user of the unit 110 and other participants. Thus, the center 140 connects the voice path to a noise generator 148 which supplies a background noise that can be heard by only other participants and hardly disturb the participants. The user of a muted unit 110 can hear all communications from other participants. Meanwhile, the user of the unit 110 dials an access code to start the network muting function.

    Abstract: A network mute feature deployed in a wireless telecommunications system allows a mobile user to eliminate ambient environmental and wireless transmission noise. Upon activation of the network mute feature, a voice path interconnecting the mobile unit to a party served by the public switched telephone network (PSTN) is opened. A portion of the open voice path is subsequently interconnected to a noise generator so that the PSTN party hears unobtrusive background noise indicating that the mobile user is still "on the line" and can hear transmissions by the party. The PSTN party, however, cannot hear noises associated with mobile user's environment or wireless transmission while the network mute feature is activated. Advantageously, the network mute feature enhances the ability of mobile users to participate in calls in which the quality of transmission (e.g., a conference call) is important.

    Abstract: In an embodiment for establishing a cellular mobile call, if no radio traffic (voice or data) channels are available for a calling or called mobile station (MS), then a test is made to determine the expected wait time before a channel becomes available. If the expected wait time is less than a first threshold, then the call or the call request is queued. If a channel for an incoming call to an MS does not become available before a second time threshold, then the caller is notified by an announcement that the call has been queued and is expected to be established in a short time. If the caller of an incoming call to the MS does not disconnect, then the MSC waits for an available channel and establishes a connection to the MS over that available channel. For an outgoing call from an MS, a control message is sent to the MS to trigger an indication of the queued status to the user. The indication may be one or more tones, a data display, or the playing of a pre-recorded announcement. Advantageously, the number of calls blocked because of unavailable traffic channels is reduced. Advantageously, the same arrangement can be used to reduce blocking of calls because of unavailability of trunks for a link of a call connection in a PSTN.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for performing a voice dispatch call in a digital communication system, such as a spread spectrum communication system. A dispatch group that includes a plurality of communication units is established at a dispatch server. A virtual connection is established for each mobile unit that is active. A dispatch call is initiated when an originating mobile unit sends a dispatch request that is received at the dispatch server. A radio channel is established with each of the active mobile units in the dispatch group. The originating mobile unit then sends voice data that is received by the dispatch server. The voice data can be buffered at the originating mobile unit or the dispatch server. The dispatch server then distributes a portion of the voice data to the active mobile units in the dispatch group utilizing the radio channel.
