    Abstract: A user interface of simplifying selection of speaker volume level and power conservation level in a computer system. An icon is presented for setting the speaker volume which includes a bar graph of relative speaker volume. By depressing left or right arrow keys the graph moves and the volume level of the speaker is changed. By depressing the down arrow key when setting the volume level, the speaker is beeped to allow for a level check during the setting process. A series of icons are used to indicate and select power conservation level. Each icon includes a battery with a faucet attached to the side of the battery. Different water flow rates indicate the various conservation levels. A human figure is located adjacent the faucet to indicate the user-customerized conservation level.

    Abstract: An ink jet printhead body has an ink filter structure integrally incorporated therein and operative to filter ink flowing into its internal ink receiving channels disposed between piezoelectrically deflectable interior wall portions of the body. In various illustrated embodiments of the printhead, the filter structure is defined by a series of photoetched micro filter passageways formed integrally in an outer side portion of the printhead body, a filter cavity formed in the outer side portion and receiving a separate photoetchable filter member in which photoetched micro filter passageways are formed, and a filter cavity formed in the outer side portion and receiving a separate mesh-type micro filter member. In an embodiment of the printhead adapted for use with phase change type ink, a heating channel is interiorly disposed within the outer body side portion and operatively receives an electrical resistance heating wire used to heat phase change type ink disposed within the ink receiving channels in the printhead body.

    Abstract: A battery powered computer system determines when the system is not in use by monitoring various events associated with the operation of the system. The system preferably monitors the number of cache read misses and write operations, i.e., the cache hit rate, and reduces the system clock frequency when the cache hit rate rises above a certain level. When the cache hit rate is above a certain level, then it can be assumed that the processor is executing a tight loop, such as when the processor is waiting for a key to be pressed and then the frequency can be reduced without affecting system performance. Alternatively, the apparatus monitors the occurrence of memory page misses, I/O write cycles or other events to determine the level of activity of the computer system.

    Abstract: An apparatus for performing LRU techniques for a 4 way set associative cache system. A RAM stores the ways representing the least recently used (LRU), most recently used (MRU) and LRU+1. The MRU-1 is developed by XORing the other three LRU way information values. Processor or snoop operation is determined and the way use aging information valued is based on snooping or processor operations. For processor operations the accessed or to be accessed way is set as the MRU, while in snoop operations, the way being accessed is set as the LRU. The aging of the remaining ways is shuffled accordingly. This shuffling occurs each cycle but is only stored on processor cache hit, processor read cache miss and snoop hit operations.

    Abstract: Circuitry for drawing lines includes a video memory for storing pixel data and circuitry for generating a sequence of addresses defining a line of pixels in the video memory. A first memory stores a sequence of pattern units corresponding to the generated sequence of addresses. A second memory stores a value indicating a current pattern unit. Writing circuitry writes to the video memory at a generated address responsive to a current pattern unit. A third memory stores a control value which is accessed by update circuitry for updating the second memory to indicate the next pattern unit. The update circuitry may selectively update the second memory to the sequential pattern unit or reset the second memory to a predetermined pattern unit.

    Abstract: The body of a piezoelectrically operable ink jet printhead (12) is mounted in an upper side surface groove (48) formed in a mounting plate member (14). A rear bottom section (26) of the printhead body has an exposed top side surface portion (30) which is flush with the top side (44) of the mounting plate member and terminates forwardly of its rear end (42). A high density parallel array of mutually spaced linear conductive traces (52) is formed on this exposed top side surface portion, the traces being used to transmit electrical operating signals from a separate electronic driver to piezoelectrically drivable channel sidewall sections (36) within the interior of the printhead body. A multitiered printed circuit board (16) secured to the top side of the mounting plate member is used to connect the printhead to the electronic driver. The circuit board has a series of linear traces (52a) formed on its bottom side which register with and are soldered to the closely spaced printhead body traces (52), a spaced series of lower density spacing contact pads (54a) formed on its top side and releasably engageable with correspondingly spaced contact pads on the electronic driver, and internal crossover circuitry (62) that operatively connects the high density underside linear traces of the circuit board to its lower density top side contact pads.
