    Abstract: PURPOSE: A shock absorber of a vehicle hood is provided to reduce the injury of a pedestrian to the minimum in a vehicle crash by making the hood deformed downward and absorbing shock when pedestrian is crashed into the hood. CONSTITUTION: In a vehicle hood having an outer panel and an inner panel(3), an impact-sensing lever(7) is coupled at the base of the outer panel and a side of the impact-sensing lever is contacted with the outer panel. A stopper(13) installed inside a housing(11) by a compression spring(15) is coupled to the other side of the impact-sensing lever. The housing is fixed by an upper bracket(10) supported at the base of the outer panel. A moving member(17) connected by a connecting bar(16) is installed at an end of the stopper. A working rod(22) elastically installed to a tension spring is installed to the moving member. A working plate(23) fixed to the outer panel is prepared at the upper end of the working rod. The outer panel is pulled downward and the outer panel is deformed downward when a pedestrian is crashed into the hood, and therefore shock is absorbed.

CONSTITUTION: A device for absorbing impact of a hood for a vehicle consists of an operating plate(110) fixed in the lower surface of an outer panel(2); a fixed road(120) fixed in the operating plate vertically; a cylindrical moving rod(130) connected to the fixed road and moving as sliding bilaterally; a tension spring(140) pulling the moving rod to the stripping direction of the fixed road and the moving rod; an impact sense lever(150) installed to be rotatable in the lower surface of the outer panel, and obstructing movement of the moving rod as being supported in the movable rod; a clamp(160) installed in the upper surface of an inner panel(3) to pull down the fixed road if the movable rod is stripped from the fixed road. When the vehicle collides with the pedestrian in front, a part of body of the pedestrian bumps against the outer panel and the impact force presses the outer panel downward. The impact sense lever is rotated counterclockwise in the center of a hinge(150a) according to pressing the impact to the outer panel, and the edge of the impact sensing lever is stripped from the hanging projection. The moving rod is pulled by elastic restoring force of the tension spring and the clamp and the fixed road contacts. The fixed road and the operating plate is pulled downward because the clamp has power to pull downward the fixed road by the return spring. The part of the outer panel is deformed downward by the power pulled downward by the clamp.
