Abstract:
The present invention includes a stationary outer blade and a rotating inner cutting blade. A unique blade design and geometry allows clean, smooth cuts in fibrous tissue.
Abstract:
Ophthalmic formulations containing substituted glycosides useful as antimicrobial agents are disclosed. Methods for preserving ophthalmic formulations are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A method for focusing a corneal topographer by determining the maximum intensity of a reflected light during a first focusing sweep and capturing the topographic image during a second sweep when the reflection intensity reaches the maximum intensity.
Abstract:
Stable formulations of positively charged, hydrolytically unstable drug compounds are obtained by adding a sulfated polyvinyl alcohol copolymer to the formulations.
Abstract:
Enantioselective syntheses of (S)-6-chloro-3,4-dihydro-2-(3-methoxypropyl)-2H-thieno[3,2-e]-1,2-thiazin-4-ol 1,1-dioxide and related compounds of the formula (1) wherein R is H or Cl; and R' is C1-6 alkyl, CH2(CH2)nOR", wherein R" is CH3 or (CH2)nCH3 and n is 1-4, CH2(CH2)nX, wherein X is Br, Cl, or I, and n is 1-4, or (CH2)nAr, wherein Ar is unsubstituted phenyl, 3-methoxyphenyl, or 4-methoxyphenyl and n is 1 or 2.
Abstract:
The use of glycine and other low molecular weight amino acids in ophthalmic compositions (e.g., preserved saline solutions) is described. These compounds have been found to enhance the efficacy of antimicrobial preservatives. The compounds also act as chelating agents, buffers and tonicity agents.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for disinfecting contact lenses with hydrogen peroxide solutions are described. The systems and methods are based on the use of an improved means for neutralizing the hydrogen peroxide following disinfection of the lenses. The neutralization component of the present invention includes a hydrogen peroxide neutralizing agent, boric acid and glycine. The neutralization component provides antimicrobial activity sufficient to prevent the lenses from being recontaminated with bacteria or other microbes during the neutralization step.
Abstract:
A method of storing contact lenses using a lens case having a bactericidal coating and a storage solution containing a quaternary ammonium compound.
Abstract:
A novel process preparing clonidine derivatives has been discovered which is shorter, less expensive and safer than previously known methods. A new thiourea complex of formula (I) wherein: Ar is a phenyl or naphthyl and unsubstituted or substituted with one or more moieties selected from the group consisting of: Cl, F, Br, I, C1 to C4 alkyl, aryl, C1 to C4 alkoxy or arylalkoxy; NO2 is in the para or ortho position; and n is 1 to 4, has also been discovered which can be directly cyclized to produce the corresponding heterocyclic product.
Abstract:
Compositions for controlling glaucoma and ocular hypertension are disclosed. These compositions comprise pilocarpine, a beta-blocker such as betaxolol, an ion exchange resin and a polyanionic polymer such as carbomers.
