    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a TOF adjusting method by which a TOF located between a TOF sensor and a recording head can be corrected easily and accurately, by adjusting the TOF through controlling a reading-starting address in a data memory. CONSTITUTION:When a recording head is deviated from a normal position by a 4-dot amount in a paper-feeding direction, a reading-starting address in a data memory is correctively shifted by a 4-dot amount in the direction of higher writing order of data, and reading positions for color data are shifted under control to positions LA, LB, LC, LD which are shifted from reference positions by a 4-dot amount in the direction of lower reading order, respectively. By thus controlling the reading-starting address in the data memory according to the positional deviation of the recording head, a TOF can be adjusted easily and accurately. The timing for starting reading the addresses in the memory is set at the time when a predetermined number of paper-feeding pulses are counted after detecting a TOF mark.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To easily regulate vertical bias between the head units of a printer at a small interval of 1/N dots (N is an integer) by a method in which the driving timing of a recording head is controlled at a interval of 1/N dots, and when a mechanical vertical bias is present, the head is driven at a corresponding ly biased timing. CONSTITUTION:In case where driving is made at a timing biased every at an interval of 1/4 one dot of N(4) in a controlled manner and the head unit 1B of magenta is biased vertically by 2/4 dots to the direction of head unit 1C of cyan in relation to a reference position, the head nit 1B of magenta vertically biased is driven at a timing delayed by 2/4 dots from reference timing. The recording position of dots on a recording paper is biased by 2/4 dots to the sending direction of paper (direction of arrow A) in relation to the reference position, and the vertical bias is regulated. Vertical bias during the exchange of heads and dispersion of accuracy during production can be easily regulated.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable the temperature range of a head unit to be controllable to a suitable discharge range by providing a heater and a temperature sensor on each of plural head units and also a cooling fan capable of cooling all of the head units concurrently with the heater and fan being switched ON and OFF. CONSTITUTION:If the calorific value of a head (including that of a heater) is set in a vertical axis and the temperature of a head unit in a horizontal axis according to the heat transmission expression W=k.DELTAt (k represents the heat transmission factor), k assumes a straight line as a gradient. Then the fan and heater are selected by taking advantage of this straight line. A tempera ture sensor 6and a heater 7 are provided on each head unit 2 to 5, and also a single system fan 8, 9 which can cool all of the head units simultaneously is installed to monitor the temperature of each head unit. If either one of the head units stands above 50 deg.C, a fan is operated, whilst if either one of them indicates temperatures below 15 deg.C, the heater is switched ON. This method allows each head unit to be controlled within the limits of a correct temperature range.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable a fixed quantity of an ink to be constantly reserved in an ink tank irrespective of inclination of the tank, by providing an ink-supplying port, a level sensor and an air opening hole at a substantially central part of the tank. CONSTITUTION:Ink-supplying ports 18a, 19a are provided at a bottom part of a central part of the tank, the level sensor 9 is provided at a position corresponding to the ports, and an air opening hole 20a is provided at the center of an upper part of the tank. An inclined liquid surface produce the same effect on the ports 18a, 19a and on the level sensor 9, so that the ink can be securely supplied to the head side irrespective of the inclination of the ink tank. In addition, even when the ink containing bubbles enters the tank through circulation in an ink passage at the time of supplying the ink, the bubbles move from the liquid surface toward the hole 20a, so that no bubbles remain in the ink.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To automatically open and close a valve when a head unit is mounted and dismounted, by providing a lock lever for turning a turning lever in a closing direction to which force is applied in a valve opening direction unless external force is applied. CONSTITUTION:A turning lever 24 is pulled downward by a spring 25 at all times so that it is given force in a direction for depressing a rod 19. A lock lever 29 is turned clockwise by pulling force of a spring 30 which is greater than that of the spring 25 so that a connecting piece 29b at a lower side moves the turning lever 24 upward and a disk 26 is apart from a rod 18. When a head unit is mounted on a main body, the lock lever 29 is turned counterclockwise and loses force for restricting the turning lever 24 so that the turning lever 24 is turned counterclockwise for depressing the rod 19 to open a valve 16.

The curvature of the outer peripheral surface of each of the bearing members 7 and 8 is about uniformized with the curvature of the inner peripheral surface of the bearing members 2, the curvature of the outer peripheral surface of the shaft 5, and thickness is set to a value slightly higher than the height of the projection 4. This enables rotatable support of the shaft 5 having the plural projection pieces 6.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the drying of liquid and to permit the free pass of liquid, by a method wherein a tube is divided into the upper and lower two stages, the upper stage tube having a large diameter not permitting the generation of meniscus is not generated and the lower stage tube having a small diameter allowing meniscus to be generated. CONSTITUTION:If the diamter of a large diameter tube 3 of is sized so that the meniscus of liquid drpo such a ink or the like is not generated, the liquid drop does not remain and flows to the small diameter tube 6. On the other hand, the meniscus of liquid drop is generated in the small diameter tube 6 and the liquid drop remains therein. The flow of air between a reservoir tank 1 and a drain tank 7 is obstructed by the remainder of this liquid drop and the liquid in the channel is not dried. On the other hand, if the amount of the liquid flowing through the large diameter tube 3 increases, its water head is applied to the liquid drop remaining in the tube 6 of a small diameter. Then, the liquid drop can not remain and is recovered together with a large quantity of liquid to the drain tank 7.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To avoid the staining of the front face of head side when squeezing ink by shaping the cross-section of an ink absorbent into a nearly rhombic form and providing a beveled portion on the lower corners of the front face. CONSTITUTION:The front and back faces of absorbents 44 through 47 of a nearly rhombic form are in parallel with the front face side of a head element. The upper and lower faces of them are also inclined to become lower toward farther side from the head side and are parallel with each other. Beveled portions 44a through 47a are formed on the lower corners of the front faces of the absorbents 44 through 47. When squeezing ink, bleeding ink does not adhere to the head side and staining can be prevented because the beveled portions 44a through 47a are formed on the lower corners of the front face of the absorbents 44 through 47 and also because the bleeding ink is away from the head side. The bleeding ink will drop under gravity.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To securely discharge ink without producing ink bridge between a cap and a bottom plate by providing throttle plate on the lower side of a frame with an absorbent in between in such a way as to enable the support frame and the throttle plate to turn in an interlocking manner. CONSTITUTION:Ink absorbents 44 through 47 are housed in a support frame 50 fixed to an arm 49 rotatably supported on a frame 43 through a shaft 48. A throttle plate 51 is set below the absorbents 44 47 and also rotatably supported on the tip of another arm 52 through a pin 52a. A stopper 55 is also provided on the frame 43 side at a position facing the bend portion of the arm 52 that supports the plate 51. Therefore, throttling actions away from the head side and on the upside of the space of the cap and absorbing actions caused by contact of the absorbents with the head side can thus be interlocked by the turning motion of the absorbents following the turning action of each arm.
